Anyone else been wondering what is going on with all this free SP or why omega boosters are popping up more frequently? Are you one of the people complaining about ISK payouts? How many times have you complained in the last week about matchmaking?
For me:
Yes No, but tired of seeing it. More than I can count.
Well here is my take on all of it that you QQers out there will most likely not bother reading.
The future of the game are being set in stone right now and here is how.
The incredible flow of SP raining down on us week in and week out is quickly segregating the player base. Proto players are getting one or two skills maxed out every week while advance players are turning to proto players themself. Meanwhile the newbies who stick it out and grind the event become advanced players leaving the other newbies behind to casually game.
What does this do for the future of the game?
Simply put it fixes matchmaking and the new player experience by moving everyone into somewhat tight groupings while leaving the very casual newbies and the actual new players to actually have competitive matches among themselves.
With matchmaking fixed and how the payment system works in pubs ISK payouts suddenly become very proportionate to the equipment you are running, allowing you to run competitve gear with profit/loss being determined more on how you perform in the match instead of how cheaply you can die while still ranking high enough to hope for a decent payout.
What about the "ISK Farmers"?
With the release of the player market inevitably some portion of that money will shift into the hands of all players as to some extent office weapons have been distributed equally based on how much you have played. The players who have more of these weapons to sell at market time will ultimately set the risk/reward on running those weapons in different matches.
Why is PC seemingly over with?
When it comes to ISK in PC it is difficult to speculate what 2.0 will consistent of and where it will play a role. Even in the current system the ultimate winner would easily be the side with the most motivated and skilled players which currently is not happening due to lack of interest and low activity corporations not being able to raise the money to send their top men into battle. True leaders will emerge as these problems are fixed leaving the exploiters in the background as they become unable to pay off a few players to do their bidding against a generally unmotivated community.
The last of my rantings
At the end of the day it is hard to see where everything ties together with the Eve link but until this game is stable in some sense of the word doing anything to make generate interest from the Eve side would most likely lead to putting some income from the Eve side at risk.
For the first time I actually believe that CCP does have a plan past 3 months from now.
TL;DR
If you made it to here thanks for reading. If you jumped here for the TL;DR you probably will not care to think on anything said and can just go ahead and hit the back button. |

I don't think this game has a large enough player base to support a tiered matchmaking system. |

Haha haha!!!! I haven't put any sp into proto suits, since the dropsuit command respect with 1.8 I only went up to advanced with the suits that I wanted I don't have districts to fund constant proto suit usage anyways.

Not tiered as in directly separated as that would make it hard to squad, but players grouped well enough that matches are not decided by scotty.

A smart call since you can not even get the passives from those skills for the first few minutes right now but you will get drawn in whenever the hotfix (or the next update containing a fix) comes around and those levels matter. My level 5 sentinel skill makes my templar fit pretty **** nice once passives finally kick in.

With matchmaking fixed ...
Please explain in detail how exactly this will fix matchmaking. You're making a claim, but I'd like to hear your reasoning about how it will play out in an example.

I think you vastly overestimate the thought that goes into these events. They're purely a way to get more people playing/buying boosters. And the weapon based ones are to get us trying different/new weapons.
Matchmaking will be f*cked as long as we have ~3k concurrent players, no matter how SP is spread around.

And this is why we don't have more players. It's not very smart guys,' we don't have enough players so lets just let the stomp continue so we will never get any more'.
The only people that will be adversely affected by a matchmaking system are vets, who will have to compete on an even playing field and deal with dropping KDR's.
We need to put the system in place first to retain new players not just let the same old thing we have now completely exclude anyone new coming in. |

I really dont think that the one true problem, New Player Stickyness, is getting fixed by this at all. If they dont get a disproportionally accelerated SP gain from the start, without events, all events and SP gifts do is: removing every other player even more far away from new players.
If the "average player" in dust today is at 15-20mio SP, with event after event propelling them forward. What do you think should newberries do with their 0.5mio? Right. Dont even try. Play a more rewarding and less frustrating game for them, something relatively easy like Dark Souls. I am at 20mio SP, I played a year for that. In a year I will be at 40mio, the hardcore vets will be at 150mio. The new player will still start at 0.5. Nothing fixed.
There is no rubber-band-effect in place, keeping the player base together, if the gifts go out to these who play the most. They will move even faster away at the front.
The answer to your complaint is PvE. Always.

This mindset is very revealing. People dont even grasp the concept of a "growing playerbase". That is the problem guys.
