My thoughts on how to put the MMO into this game. I know it is missing things, but it is a basic idea to get the MMO gameplay established.
NOTE: This idea is assuming a large portion of the player base will probably be doing PvE
Empire/Pub Games:
-Eve Pilots/Corps initiate attacks on any planet, that they want, that they are currently at war with.
-The Pilot/Corp pays, to Concord for instance, 5m for each merc slot they want to open for the assault, I.E. if you pay 10m you can have 2 mercs assault the district. These can be set pub/private for either anyone to fill, or invite only.
-Mercs on Dust side are given a star map and filters to find particular open fights that are looking for mercs and the price that is being offered to fill those slots.
- The planet owner is given the option to defend their districts with either drones or an automatic merc hiring system. That system will hire mercs with a preset number of variables to defend the planet if it is attacked. Which can be up to the maximum number of allowed players on that side.
Low-Sec/Faction Warfare
-Faction Warfare would work similarly with the starmap where a Dust Merc would find a Faction Warfare fight either currently in progress or queing up and join said fight.
-Attacks on planets would work the same as Empire fights, but war is not required, but the attacker takes a security hit for engaging in unauthorized planetary warfare but war can still be declared to avoid the sec hit.
Null-Sec/PC
-Seeing as PC pretty much would be existant everywhere with this system, it wouldn't be that much different except for the fact that the planets will be required to hold sov. If you don't hold enough planets, you can have sov in that system. This will force planets to be fought over constantly to hold sov and where a large portion of the fights, I feel, would take place.
TL;DR
-Eve initiates fights, dust fills them and Dust Mercs can chose which fights they join in, instead of just getting slapped into meaningless pub games.
-Planets are required to hold Sov in Null Space
