I think that the Heavies totally deserve a weapon that is capable of long range destruction. (NOT A RR or CR). I thought that CCP should make an HMG that is a double barrel (side-by-side non-rotating) slow RoF with high accuracy as the barrels are slightly pushed backwards into the weapon to compensate for recoil. This weapon will have a similar but sleaker design than the bulky looking HMG most of us are used to. Picture with the barrel of two .50 caliber Brownings somewhat but more futureistic looking to fit the DUST theme. The RoF should be about 450 rpm firing as a projectile weapon with a 150 bullet magazine (box magazine maybe) and max ammo capacity is 800. With the slow RoF the damage should be about 40 damage within its optimal range of 75 meters with a max range of 150 meters at 30 damage at the lowest. Th accuracy rating as well should be pretty high as it should be about 70 maybe? I'm not too sure if the lower the number the better it is or the worse it is. Also the recoil handleing is relatively ok, and the heat build up is not too fast yet heats at a reasonable speed. That is the basic model, but the adv model should be the same RoF, same Range, slightly less recoil, slightly longer heat build up, maybe boost the damage to about 45 and the accuracy should stay the same. And for the prototype, same accuracy (maybe slightly better), same RoF, same Range, lesser recoil than the adv, even longer heat build up, maybe the damage is about 50. (Controversial??) No change to the ammo count. Just a rough idea I thought of this morning in my head. Maybe it could be something that can be considered by CCP possibly. If you don't like the idea go ahead and say it's stupid I don't care. Or if you got ideas to add or change go ahead and shout em out. Heavies could really use a long range weapon about now and instead of using railrifles. Remember this is a hip-fire only weapon, it's not a duplicate of a railrifle. But yes maybe some similar stats. |

One of the key things limiting heavies right now is their lack of range with the HMG. They have tons of health, deal massive amounts of damage, but are slow and have limited range. This keeps them in check. If you can either increase their range, or increase their mobility, you have the recipe for something very powerful, and very easy to be OP.
This is why the RR was broken in 1.7. It had accuracy, range, and damage. If you have that, the weapon just is OP without another serious limiting factor, which the RR didn't have.
This is also why LAV-heavies are a very powerful (and potentially OP?) tactic. Their lack of mobility is negated by the LAV.
Therefore we must tread carefully when creating a long range weapon for heavies, otherwise it will just be OP, become FOTM and be nerfed a few months thereafter. |

If sentinels get a long range weapon it needs to be a trajectory-based weapon like a mortar or massive dumb-fire missile. That would fit with the sentinel heavy weapon philosophy.
I don't think the HMG needs a long range variant. That weapon type should stick to being extremely deadly in CQC-to-mid range engagements.
He imposes order on the chaos of organic evolution...

Sentinels are meant to be defensive, not offensive. Now this does not mean camping, this means holding down an objective to keep people out. Now usually this means using the HMG to its full advantage in CQC. So why the hell would we need a long range variant of the HMG when most of us play by our role and defend?
Also if you want a long range heavy weapon try the Forge Gun.

Also if you want a long range heavy weapon try the Forge Gun. Majority of the maps in dust favor longer ranges than what hmgs can provide. Have you ever attacked head on bro??? Doubt it from what you have said. I've been a heavy since the closed beta of dust. The assault hmgs aren't even close to long range hmgs. Plus this is just an IDEA so chill the **** out! Good luck on taking out enemies with forge guns. Totally logical and effective, I mean seriously.... NOT! |

We Sentinel heavies do not need a freaking long range Autocannon... we are not designed to be attacking targets from range with Anti-Infantry weapons, we are designed to be in the bloody thick of things mowing down medium and light suits or dueling other heavies with our HMGs or pounding tanks and dropships (and occasionally blasting infantry standing still if you feel trolly, and find some poor sod...) from vantage points with our forge guns [for right now anyway until CCP expands the heavy arsenal a bit]. Engagement range is one of the limiting factors that Heavy frames and Sentinels need to balance them out against the other dropsuit classes...
You want to go long range Anti-Infantry with a heavy frame? Caldari Commando with a Sniper rifle and a Rail Rifle has got what you need.

Its not only unwise but downright suicidal at times with very open objectives to run an hmg.....the downside of using a longer ranged heavy weapon should be ROF which will keep it from being an effective cqc weapon....
Forge guns are junk against infantry anymore....if you aren't sniping infantry you die.... a lot....and you are using a super tanked suit with a super long ranged weapon which sort of defeats the purpose of having a tanked out heavy suit.....people cried over and over that the forge should be av only ....so CCP nerfed it to where you can't effectively use it against infantry....now those same people are trying to say the forge is supposed to be a long ranged anti infantry weapon.....are you guys on crack????
