I don't because when I die I know I just wasted a whole match/ 20 minutes and didn't profit. Also, just in case I die to something really stupid like jumping in a well or getting owned by a militia suit so I don't break my house over it. |

because a lot of us bitter vets have so much isk we don't know what to do with it except run expensive suits and see what mischief we can cause....
proto isn't for the poor or to win or to profit, it for the laughs.
this game makes me sad....

Some weapons are just completely ineffective in their role if not adv/proto. Nova Knives and swarm launchers come to mind as completely underpowered at standard and advanced levels, hence the forum post in my sig.

Rich corps can crash ADS all day as fast as they want and still turn a profit from PC on a daily basis. When money has no value to them they run the best they have. Anyone who thinks proto gear dosn't make you more lethal and survive longer is a fool.

The only thing proto I use is the rep tool and I like the dual beam, range and amount repped. I agree with you that prototype performance isn't worth the price increase so I don't use anything but a tool. I stopped using plates a while back because the drawback isn't worth the increased armor.
I think people use proto because it makes them feel good and they have ISK to burn so they don't care. Players whom are good use it because they have the skill to back up the small percentage increase but most players probably wouldn't notice the performance difference because it is so small when compared to the jump from standard to advanced. I still think if you can't do it in advanced then you can't do it.
Prototype suits are diffent because they have better resources but a fully fitted proto suit is costly and it is difficult to turn a profit if you die more than once.

for me it's about fitting everything that I like on my suit. I recently went from my 21.5 mill sp guy to a 1.5 mill sp guy.
while my 1.5 guy is far better than I thought he would be, it's only cause I've been playing for almost a year (damn). I knew where to put everything this time and it hasn't changed my play style much.
But, I don't have everything that I am used to cause it all can't fit on a non-proto suit.
but when I get to proto, yeah i'm gonna run it 23/7...just like before...cause i'm rich as poo....really..i lost 137 million isk in a lotto and I laughed cause that sh/t was funny....
Taking over field work for 'Cpl Foster, USMC' (he got his 10,000th kill) until some new stuff comes out.
