Ditch AFG's and get the regular/breach variant, hold the charge for a few seconds to avoid firing blanks.

MLT forge will work? since it doesn't include the skill? i think that only works for MLT dropsuits though.

Happens on the plasma cannon as well for the same reason, but nobody cries about it because you never expect to hit anything as it is.

Protip: you can still use your FG if you hold your charge for a little longer. AFG is unusable anyway...

Also if your shields are down the forge gun will misfire. You cannot take fire while forging.
