Hello,
I have been wondering how to utilize the 'Other Contracts' tab under the battle finder, as currently it is not relevant to much of the player base. I believe we have the answer in CCP's current set-up, it would just take a little tinkering to make it work.
Now before i put this out there, let it be known that i'm no programmer, so i don't know how feasible this really is, but here goes:
In the current iteration of the game, we have some very well put together events to stimulate player involvement, such as the Sidearm challenge due to end on the 9th March, 2014. My suggestion is instead of these being held as Public matches, and open to everyone, that these be staged under the Other Contracts tab, and be limited to those that wish to participate.
So, for example, with the sidearm challenge, once a player enters the challenge, have it that the game only allows the player to select a suit that has only sidearms equipped (in any of the weapons' slots). if the the player has a suit with a light or heavy weapon equipped, said suit will be be red-lighted, with an 'Invalid dropsuit for this event' message shown as the reason that the suit cannot be used.
This would force players to adhere to the intended terms of the challenge, and create one-off, very unique game styles for each event. And because this is being handled under Other Contracts, players will be free to play pub matches in any way they feel, should they want to get away from the challenge.
Another possible benefit is that it may (again i'm no programmer, so i'm not sure if this can be done) provide CCP with a cleaner/easier way to track statistics from these events, and would allow them to set specific and unique situations for 'Live' testing on the player base. If, for example, the Sidearm Challenge was to provide extra Sp per kill, but this would not be offset against the players weekly SP cap, would it not be easier for CCP to track player involvement in this way, than have their programmers track player involvement across all Pub and FW matches? This would also be easier to manage for the players too, as now they can hit their weekly SP cap using the fits they are most comfortable with, and then head to the Other Contracts' events for a change from the norm/novelty effect.
Implementing a player tracker showing total kills for this event would also be easier if the event is totally removed from the Pub matches, as the player can be more easily tracked if he/she should join one of these contracts, and would remove any mistrust/ambiguity that the player has not been adequately compensated for the kills that they received during the event.
Game modes under this tab can be on a rotation so no one situation persists, adding further dynamism to the game styles, and giving CCP a myriad of options when you consider the number of maps and the various districts that can be used as staging point for any of the Amb., Dom or Skr matches.
TL/DR: Put current events under Other Contract. This would make life a little easier for CCP, and allow the player base to have different novelty events to play.
Any positive critique of this idea is welcome, and a Blue Tag acknowledgement of this being feasible would be equally appreciated. |
