So, I've been playing Dust for a decent while now, and I read through these forums fairly regularly to keep up with updates and the overall state of the game and it's issues. I have a few thoughts that may or may not be popular with many of you but I feel compelled to say them for some reason...
First, Dust is pretty far from a bad game. Does it have bugs/glitches? Yes. Show me a game that doesn't. Now show me a comparable game that you don't have to pay for. How spoiled are we that we have come to demand absolute perfection from a game that we don't even have to pay a dime for?
Next, show me where Call of Duty or Battlefield or any other such game continually works and updates to improve and add content that is worthwhile? CCP has been pretty good at following through with updates every month or so with lots of new content and game play tweaks to keep the game evolving and interesting. Granted, there is a new handful of bugs for every handful they sort out, but the game is at least evolving without ever tapping into your pocketbook.
Also, just an observation but it seems like a large majority of players/users expect Dust to be like Call of Duty, which it isn't. Thank God. I played CoD for years and found myself constantly frustrated with the lack of team based tactics in it. It was just a team full of Solid Snake wannabes and there was no desire to win the battle, unless you're referring to the ever-present K/D ***** measuring battle. I, for one, very much enjoy Dust, in that you are rewarded for playing as a team and winning the battle at hand. Every time I have been in a battle with a bunch of "CoD" players, our side gets stomped.
A lot of people seem to want to complain about the fact that it took them almost a year to release racial suits when they never gave a specific timetable for their release. If you want to complain about broken promises, may I redirect your attention using a mere 4 words; Grand Theft Auto Online. And that game cost $60 minimum.
Anyways, I too have had my moments of frustration with the bugs and issues with the game, and personally, I am very much ready for a P2P marketplace, but in the grand scheme of things, this game is excellent for something that costs nothing.
Thanks for listening. Lol. Cheers. |

Where your point of view is sound and I agree with the majority of the post. One must consider that fact that most other gaming companies are in the mindset that the game they develop will be old and stagnate in 6 months. That, and the fact that they will most likely push a cookie cutter copy of that game within a year or so with updated skins and reworking maps, but that is about it. All the while teasing with DLC that they had already made, but didn't release with the game so they can make more money off the consumer while in transition.
This game however is a project by a company that has only 2 games currently running. They have shown in the past 10+ years of their existence that they can produce quality product with proper bug testing and follow up. However, the Dust 514 team has consistently not shown that level of quality. I am not referring to specifics about the game itself, but with the fact that some of the most fundamental parts that need the attention have been almost completely ignored. Even after the community has time and time again brought these issues to their attention.
It has come to a point where the level of poor quality is to be expected and is acceptable to our community. That in itself is a very bad thing. It should not be ok to see the long list of problems with a patch that had been in the making for months. Like I said before in other posts I have made. This would not be as much of an issue if it happened once in a while, but when it is every patch for over a year...it just gets old.

I can definitely sympathize with that. I think you are definitely on point and I have to certainly agree that there are several issues that I would have liked to see fixed before new content was released. It is nice to see a game with a long term vision instead of the, as you stated, "cookie-cutter" yearly reskin for the purpose of making as much money off of people as possible. The likes of Call of Duty and Battlefield are much more polished, no room for argument either way on that, and I very much agree that I would rather see a coat of polish before seeing a bunch of new items. |
