Lining up at a supply depot to resupply aerial craft is an unbelievably poor system. What makes it bad is we can be railed from over 650 metres away, rammed by idiotic blues in HAVs who think they are funny, hit by racing LAVs who are out of control, collide with other aerial craft coming in the resupply and the like. But what is even worse than this? Being on the map in which the supply depots are all in enclosed areas. But I thought that CCP would have made a large resupply radius (e.g 15 meter radius) so you can resupply without having to touch the supply depot or be within 1-2 meters of it like current, no, not even this was done, perhaps, if it was, I would have never sparked with the idea of this thread.
While I understand that vehicle ammo was introduced in 1.7 and CCP needed a quick method of resupplying vehicles ammo, I do not understand why they could have used CURRENT IN-GAME ASSETS to make the experience safer and time efficient.
Why couldnGÇÖt CCP have made these: Outpost 1 Outpost 2 Outpost 3 Outpost 4 Outpost 5 The resupply points for aerial craft?
These are all in game outposts, currently not serving any use but areas for infantry to run about on. They are clearly landing sites as visible yet they have no purpose for what they appear to have originally intended for.
Certain outposts, for example outposts 1 (caldari) should have racial variations with different aesthetics to add to factional warfare etc. Until then, I propose that each team should have atleast ONE of these outposts in every map with OUTPOST 1 being at the backside of both redlines meaning each team has one of these in all maps being able to resupply 4 aerial craft simultaneously, with the other landing sites, outposts 2, 3 and 5 being mixed in with the socket system. Outpost 4 is found with the building socket but, why canGÇÖt we have this one as its own individual installation just like supply depots for aerial vehicles across the map as they are small and perfect for placing around maps.
We can even make these outposts more tactical and involved in objective play. These are outposts that appear with objectives in certain maps or just as background sockets for other maps. It could be made so that the landing pads only resupply aerial craft to the team of which own the objective. This for sure would be very interesting to see and would add another element into the tenuous gameplay of hack and go to the next red letter, this would add a reason for some people, even aerial vehicles to defend that objective to the best they can.
Now, some of you may be thinking that the issues mentioned at the start may still exist, of course they do. HAVs and LAVs ramming you are greatly lessened and even easily averted or completely averted depending on the outpost. But certain issues such as aerial collision and rail guns are still present(outdated). The issue of aerial collisions in the vicinity of supply depots will be greatly, greatly reduced as there is only one pad that can resupply an aircraft at a time, so other pilots will either wait, or go to another landing pad if there is one free. The reason all these issues occur currently is because there is no limit to the amount of vehicles that a depot can resupply so everyone rushes in carelessly and do not care about their fellow friendly vehicles. As I said before, each team should have one of OUTPOST ONE in there redlines.
Yet the issue I have not talked about, railguns still persists. The most logical counter to being pummelled to death by high positioned tanks or forge guns should be a shield. This shield covers the circumference of the pad to the height of the aircraft. It is impenetrable by anything outside it. However, anything apart from bullets, projectiles, rail rounds can enter e.g infantry. You can safely resupply and repair up.
However, what about abusers calling in dropships and afking on these landing pads all match long? (Explained in the attributes)
Landing pad shield attributes: - Once you land, the shield can be activated by pressing X (shield is only functional to pilots in their aircraft), resupply and rearm begins automatically without needed to activate shield (read last point of GÇÿlanding pad shield attributesGÇÖ). - Once resupply is complete, the shield stays active for an additional 1 minutes with a UI flashing message saying resupply complete with the countdown till automated shield deactivation. - However, taking off from the pad manually deactivates shield. - If then, you choose to stay longer than the one minute without the shield, the afk timer begins to kick you. - Enemies and blueberries can pass the shield, so it is a good a idea to have a passenger/gunner when landing on a objective pad to prevent a fast scout place remotes on you. - To prevent abuse of the system, the shield takes 1 minute to recharge on each pad, this is shown by a green flashing light on the pad indicating shield is available and a red light indicating the shield is recharging, you can still however resupply if needed but without a shield, (I doubt anyone would run out of ammunition in 1 minute).

Landing pad attributes: - Objectives with landing pads automatically function for the team that owns the objective. - Neutral objectives with landing pads function for everyone - Red objectives with landing pads function only for hostiles - Blue objectives with landing pads function only for allies. - When landing on a hostile pad, TACNET warns the team in which own the pad of an intruder e.g. GÇ£Warning, objective A intruder detected, outpost security is at risk.GÇ¥ Tacnet also tells you the severity of the risk, read below. - Since the only aircraft being likely to land on a objective outpost and not the redline ones is a dropship, tacnet will determine the severity of the risk proposed by the dropship which is determined by how many passengers it carries. E.g. if the dropship has 2 passengers (passengers include gunners), tacnet says GÇ£Warning, objective A intruder detected, outpost security is at risk.GÇ¥ With 4 passengers - GÇ£Warning, objective A intruder detected, outpost security is at high risk.GÇ¥ With a full passenger bay - GÇ£Warning, objective A intruder detected, outpost security is at severe risk of loss.GÇ¥ - Any socket without an objective (e.g outpost 4) has to be hacked using a computer that is mounted on a little stand (look like ticket machines) - The computer can also be used to access fittings, recall the current ship and replace it with another ship in your fittings. This makes landing pads real assets worth fighting over. - Redline pads are automatically allied to the team who has that redline - All landing pads have a radar icon and HUD icon symbolised by, whatever CCP comes up with. - Landing pads have the same resupply and repair rates as supply depots.
Scenario: Dropship This yet again can make the role of the dropship much better.
-You are out of ammo and you see outpost 3 or 5 with the objective on red. -You pick up your squad who has just finished assaulting another objective. -You drop them at the red objective with the resupply post. -Your squad hacks the point and you land at the pad, rearm and regen with the shield active. -The assaulting team then climbs to the landing pad where you are safely positioned. -They enter the dropship and you take off safely
Certain outposts, e.g outpost 2, appear with the null cannon and objective ON the landing pad, modifications will need to be made, moving the null cannon OFF the pad.
As a proposition, I suggest that all future large outposts have 1 or 2 landing pads mounted in different areas of the outpost or on roofs. The current outposts should probably be modified as well. Why would a large outpost that is built over districts of potential fighting have no evacuation system or relief? <- ThatGÇÖs the lore/reasoning. It would also be cool to see ladders/paths leading to land pads on these outpost next to objectives to further link infantry and vehicles together, some landing pads can be located at ground level if the outpost has enough room. The major incentive to using these pads for the pilots is the shield and for passengers, the tactical positioning of these pads for infantry.
landsite positions (outposts) Caldari Biomass Outpost Caldari Orbital Artillery Outpost Gallente Communications outpost Gallente Research Facility
But supply depots should only resupply infantry as they where designed for so why not have this outpost to resupply Light ground vehicles, as for medium ground vehicles and heavy ground vehicles, they need a new pad, take a look at MAGs vehicle rearm units.
Now this is slighty off topic but how would you feel about a RDV having to deploy your Jet bike (1 man hoverbike speeder), pretty stupid huh, also why are RDVs medium aircraft? They should be heavy aircraft and only designed to bring in vehicles that are bigger than a light ground vehicle, any aircraft, medium to heavy ground vehicle is spawned by RDV.
So why not have this outpost be the place to spawn all LAVs, there is a console on the end of the garage where you can spawn/materialise your speeder by selecting it, when opening this console, you can only access Light ground vehicles to spawn.
Thank you for taking the time to read this if you have reached here!

Was with you till the shield. I want a shielded area around a supply drop where no enemies can kill me so I can resupply and take my time as infantry!

Its an idea, CCP doesn't have to make a shield.
All I am asking is for these to be used to resupply aerial vehicles with one in the redline.
I hope you read the rest after the shield aswell.

If CCP makes them, then yes, why not?
But the main point of this thread is that about current assets in-game.

I am wholly supportive of this..... I always found it odd that CCP went for the ol' "Nanites do it all" explanation of vehicle resupply.

Can't believe I didn't see this before.
As a pilot myself, I like the idea of using pads for resupply. I mean, we'll eventually have far more air vehicle than just Dropships, and I can't imagine something like a Fighter squeezing its nose into that little doorway of that one "ground-spawn" structure with the only Supply Depot on the inside.
Most other games I've played with aircraft have used some form of landing pad as a resupply point, and I think Dust could benefit from such.

This is exactly the stuff I'm looking for. I can't agree with everything, but it's not the content that counts, but the effort, detail, and thought that is put in.
Will be adding to my Legion Feedback list during the next update. There definitely isn't a whole lot of stuff out there on Dropships, so this is definitely valuable.

Its to do with vehicles in general :)
