A while back when CCP buffed the hmg, they increase ROF and decrease it's accuracy, thus increasing its dispersion. I believe this is one reason hmgs became so much more effective.
So for cqc/hipfire weapons like the AR and CR wouldn't more dispersion be better?
I have level 3 on all the weapons that have the sharpshooter skill. Is it worth taking it to 5?

It depends. Do you value CQC spraying ability, or the ability to hipfire at longer range? Personally I find the second one much more important- it lets you keep your strafe speed up while staying accurate.

If you are on a DS3 it doesn't matter much for hipfire anymore.
It always improves LDS behavior however. |

When I was running the FG/SMG on the Sentinel many of my headshot kills were influenced by SMG Sharpshooter 5. It tightened the groups at range for that juicy bonus damage. With the HMG I don't use the SMG nearly as much but it's still nice.
