Now, about 9 months later, how much do you feel that the core mechanics (framerate, controls, hit detection, input lag) has improved since Uprising 1.0?
I would say marginally, since: - Framerate is still low, especially in CQC. The least acceptable goal here is consistent 30 framerate, not 25, 30. - Input lag is HORRIBLE if you play in 720p. - Hit detection was fixed by adding the 'snare' effect, and not actually improving hit detection. - Mouse and keyboard controls are poorly implemented. Fix the round off errors already.
These are my reflections regarding over one year of CCPs work to improve the core mechanics.
Huge improvements in the areas above would not take one year to implement. If you have ONE good engineer. so, in your typical d-bag post here you list all the things that irritate you specifically, rather than list what has happened over the last year? is there nobody around your house for you to qq to?
Im sorry, but I really cant tell you what has improved. And if the points above have been improved, then it is by a small margin. Just like many other have agree with in this thread.

I am usually a harsh critic of CCP and the changes that they have made are not what I wanted but I have to be fair: now they finally have a working game with tangible balance - I think it's a solid foundation to build on.
One key thing that I dislike was Aim Assist - it created a very vocal CODesque player faction that got used to the Medium frame + automatic rifle win button. We now see a flood of QQ coming from a lot of them since heavy and scouts got teeth now.
I'd say the next thing to fix though should be game modes. Skirm is just a poor platform for competitive gameplay.
PLC, NK, Scout - before 1.8.
That's right, I stack that OP Sh!t.

Balance has gotten much better. There are still shortcomings that have to do with network performance and hardware. They are prolly hard to iron out under the current version of the game engine.

Is core mechanics game balance?
I thought it meant game performance.

It's so much better than 1.0. You guys are crazy, or have terrible memories. 1.0 was a train wreck. The gameplay still needs love, but it's pretty decent now, and much better than 1.0. In 6 months from now this game should be decent enough to port to the PS4.
Best PvE idea ever!

What exactly do you mean is better?
None of my stated points have seen a significant improvement in the past year. Sure, aim assist has been added, but it is only a patch on the already infected wound. We need the long term solutions. And we need them presented at fanfest.
Otherwise the razor blade will probably slice off another wave of disgruntled players. Soon no-one will be left except the poor people, that cannot afford other games or a PS4.

Soon no-one will be left except the poor people, that cannot afford other games or a PS4. And that is not going to make CCP any money. Hit detection, TTK is pretty close to perfect (could still be SLIGHTLY longer), squad finder, corp roles, racial parity for infantry, and rifles/pistols. A broad diversity of weapons to play with. LAV's that don't OHK you at 0.1 m/s, nearly all weapons are viable, and much more balanced than they were in 1.0 (it's still not perfect by any means, but much better than before). Damage profile changes encourage diversity of fittings and creates a demand for shield and armor bonused weapons. Cloaking makes damps/enhancers/scanners a mini-game of cat/mouse which is interesting. FW 2.0 with teamkilling and an LP store with a compelling link to EVE. They improved the lag produced by equipment spam, and from the coms bug too. I don't normally have many issues with lag/frame rates.
My biggest frustrations currently are the bonuses not being applied bug from 1.8, hit detection still being broken for some weapons, and getting stuck on terrain/not being able to get over a curb without jumping.
Best PvE idea ever!

Hit detection is still borked and the 'snare' effect and aim-assist mechanics are the worst implementation of a fix for it in any game ever.
I would not say that the game has 'developed' as such in the last year. More like it's just wallowed in a maintenance loop for 11 months. With any luck that's just the stuff we've been seeing and in the background they've been doing the true development that will be shown at Fanfest and given to us immediately afterwards.
I agree with you, it doesnt make sense that any major work at all has been done in the 'current' Dust to improve the core mechanics. My hypothesis still stands, that it was too hard/impossible to improve the core mechanics in the Unreal Engine 3. And CCP had to switch. If we do not get a new engine or something of similar significance as a new engine at Fanfest 2014: I will ask myself what 120 CCP employees are actually doing in Shanghai? They cant all be drinking beer at work all day, can they.. can theeeey??? If so, I need to get a job at CCP. Because I love beer.
You won't see a new engine for the PS3. At most you'll see UE4 for the PS4 version.
Changing engine wholesale is something that just isn't done. It doesn't happen.
