In EVE, lasers and projectile weaponry have both long range and short range offerings. But blasters are blasters, and rails are rails, there are no close range rails and no long range blasters.
You know what Gallente do when they need long range? They fit a rail. You know what Caldari do when they need short range? They fit a blaster.
In DUST that's pretty much true, Assault CR, CR, SMG, and soon to be precision rifle all fill the roles you could possibly want. ASCR, SCR and lasers do so too.
But is there a long range Gallente weapon? A short range Caldari weapon?
That means that an assault or commando using either of those races will not have as much versatility as Amarr or Minmatar. So either give both Gallente and Caldari bonuses to each other, or make Gallente Rails and Caldari Blasters.
My intentions is to have a fun game for everyone.
If I seem to be biased, I have good hard data to back it up.

Yes.
In EVE you don't see Gallente Ships only getting a bonus to Blaster tech. It's all Hybrid weaponry in general. When Caldari ships do happen to get a bonus to Hybrid weapons it's not only just Rail weaponry.
You know why? Because it's incredibly stupid to build your entire military mantra to one specific fighting condition. That's a recipe for failure and Death.
I understand that they no longer want to group Caldari and Gallente Hybrid weapons together but they could AT LEAST add in Gallente Rails and Caldari blasters like your proposed here.
Later down the line of course but it does need to happen. That is, unless CCP has an alternative route that would fix this issue...which I sincerely doubt anyone there has entertained the thought.

Caldari will more Likely Fit Torpedoes, Heavy Assault Missiles, Rockets... For most of their close range ships....
Gallente where always the Rail masters in EVE... Until CCP nerfed Rails... And then launched t3 battleships...
Until then really the only two ships that where gun platforms for Caldari was a Hac and its t1 counterpart... Rail Technology for the large part was Gallentes main Weapon... Every Sniper ship was a Railgun Megathron...
Caldari should of always been missile based technology... But meh... Just proof that CCP Shanghai hasn't a clue How EVE really works... Which is a shame.. They have built a natural balance around the races that has been a test bed for over a decade and often the place to look when looking for obvious Balance fixes that EVE has already dealt with.

as for a long range Gallente gun its the railgun and for caldari it is still missiles . in my whole time of playing eve i dont even think i ever seen even a noob put blasters on a caldri ship even one.

Well, missiles for infantry can get hairy in terms of development, and drones are so far off we might as well be playing on the PS5.

The problem is DUST splitting Hybrids into Hybrid - Plasma and Hybrid - Rail. In EVE, Caldari and Gallente ships have bonuses to Hybrids, not Blasters or Rails. Some of those Hybrid bonuses might favor Blasters (more Damage) or Rails (more Range), but they still apply to both Blasters and Rails.
The problem with doing it how they do in EVE is lack of suit selection. Suits are analogous to Ships, and there are a great many more Ships in EVE than Suits in DUST. The Caldari and Gallente ships in EVE have bonuses to Hybrids because about half of them have bonuses to their races other weapon system (Missiles for Caldari and Drones for Gallente) instead of Hybrids.
DUST has almost zero 'missile' weapons. Actually, there are no missiles. There are only weapons classified as Explosive type. This is another problem. DUST does weapon type and damage type different than EVE.
There's a whole slew of problems revolving around this and making Caldari blasters and Gallente rails is absolutely a terrible idea and does nothing to address the real issues.

Bethhy, you are spot on.
I was a little confused at first why Caldari didn't have more missile based but I do understand coming up with Infantry Missile based weaponry would be out of the box thinking but I was sorely disappointed when they took the cop out approach and completely separated rails and blasters from hybrid weapons with one only belonging to the other.
Who said Missiles had to be locked on weapons as a requirement to be called missiles. The definition of Missile isn't even hinted at something that's guided and even if it did. Definitions change throughout the years so maybe it did in EVE as well.

But doing it any other way would require much more revising and work.
We all know we can't have that right now.
Hybrids need to be hybrids and Caldari need to have more weaponry options with missiles. Gallente would also need drones.
But none of that is happening anytime soon. Like, I'm not even expecting drones until DUST ports over to the PS4 in, what, 8 years?

The "answer" to this is weapon variants. The Caldari short range weapon should (by Dust thinking) be the assault rail rifle, just like the assault scrambler rifle vs scrambler rifle. The problem for the Gallente stems from the fact that their weapon variants for the "assault" rifle don't work. The burst, breach, and tactical variants for them are all crap; especially when compared to the weapons they are supposed to mimic. They consistently have less range, less damage, and lower ROF than what they are trying to copy while the "assault" variants of all the other weapons have equal to or more DPS than the AR with longer range to boot.
I am a fan of the Gallente and their suits are all great but I hate where their weapons are right now. The only reason I am finding any success with Gallente weapons right now is because of the cloak, so I can get within my effective range without being taken out. The shame is though is that for all that work, unless its the shotgun, it typically doesn't yield better results for it. In six months I have seen 1 kill with a tac AR, none with the breach or burst variants and, while I know it has happened, I don't honestly think I have ever seen a vehicle kill with a plasma cannon. |

I could really go for a longish range weapon that is not, burst, spool or has a heat build up. A proper semi auto would be dreamy.

No, No, and No
You need boundaries of some sort in any game. If you allow total freedom and choice in any game, it sounds cool in theory but you end up with everyone choosing the best everything and total freedom ends up making everything the same.
Look at Slayer Logis and how we had them for so long. This was caused because of there being no usable bonuses for anything. So everyone chose the suit with the most slots and the highest damage weapons, and the best equip.
Look at Champions Online also. They had to change their whole skill system because they allowed total choice for every skill and did not have a class system. Resultingly, everyone built Tank Mages, they chose the highest damage ranged attacks and the toughest tank powers. There was little variation because they allowed very little structure to your choices.
Your choices need structure to prevent homogenous character creation and to drive creativity.

all the pro caldari fit a rack of missiles to all of their ships, the 425mm rails are just filler on a rokh for the main battery of 4x cruise launchers
and only scrubs put blasters on Merlins and Moas, that's what rockets and HAMs are for
don't even get me started on noob talos pilots fitting rails to their failboats, disgraces to the federation the lot of them |
