Honestly in a pub match there's not much to do as a squad lead. Place a defend order on someone in your squad that will get you a lot of WP, mark snipers/vehicles/cloaked scouts with attack orders and use your Orbital Strikes to help win matches instead of getting mass amounts of kills, unless that's what's needed. It's all simple stuff really. I'm sure other players will go more in-depth or troll you. That's the basics though. |

First off, what do you mean by "Squad Lead?"
"There once was a time when there wasn't a Roy Ventus and it wasn't much of a time at all."

Hold R2 (weapon select). Click the right stick (R3).
Your weapon/equipment wheel is now a squad orders wheel. Select the appropriate order (usually "defend") then highlight a target (preferably a squad member) and press the fire button (R1).
If you're setting a defend order on a squad member, anyone performing any WP-earning actions near that squadmate will earn a bonus 20% WP for themselves, and will also give you a "Commission" WP bonus equal to the extra amount they earn. For example, on a kill is normally 50WP, but when an enemy near a defend order is killed, the killer is awarded 60WP (50 + 20%), and the squad leader recieves 10WP (50 x 10%).
The Squad Leader him- or herself doesn't earn the WP bonuses on their own actions, so it can be beneficial to run a little bit apart from your Squad - but you want to stay close enough to keep track of them and reassign orders as necessary. A sneaky or scan-focused Scout or a Sniper are good choices, but any suit can be used as an effective squad leader if you're good at the role.
When your squad accumulates a large enough WP total, you gain the ability to call in a Warbarge or Orbital Strike. Open up the menu that you'd normally use to call in vehicles, and there's an option to select "Off Map Support" - this includes Warbarge "Precision Strikes" in all game modes no matter what, and EVE-based "Orbital Strikes" which are more powerful but can only be called in on battles where you have friendly support from an EVE player above the battlefield. |
