Here's one that people haven't thought of, and it solves the problem of cloak tiers being relatively useless:
Different amounts of shimmer by the tier.
I've noticed lately that while cloaked scouts are somewhat visible when they're moving, they're still pretty damn hard to see. So, why don't we have different amounts of movement shimmering depending on the tier of the cloak?
At proto, they would look the way they do now- pretty damn hard to see against certain backdrops, but not completely invisible. At standard, a fast-moving cloaked scout would be pretty easy to see if you're looking for them, yet still invisible if they stay still.
This, combined with correcting weapon switching by adding a delay, would make cloaks more tactical than they are now, rather than allowing a scout suit to be used as a shocktroop 2.0

For a second I thought you said clock...Hey...Can people turn dyslexic? Anyway...I am surprised by the shimmer I expected some kind of Killzone-esque scout cloak, which would have been cool by itself.

I don't understand how people have difficulty seeing cloaks. Does everyone sit 20 meters away and use a **** monitor?

Cloaked people are pretty damn visible when they are moving guys. How can you not see them?!
If you are having a hard time seeing them, turn up the Contrast on your TV/Monitor a little bit. It will make your game look stupid, but moving cloaks will be slightly more visible against dark backdrops.

Its an FPS, should be about 2 feet away and using a high quality monitor. Haven't once seen an FPS played competitively from 3 meters away on a couch.

I've never had difficulty seeing cloaked suits moving. Only when they are holding still and I'm moving are they difficult for me to see

Depending on map and environmental effects, cloaked players can be more or less visible in some situations.
At their most visible, a moving Scout is lit up like a blue christmas tree. At their least visible, a stationary Scout is given away by a faint blue shimmering effect. They're never completely invisible, and people who claim otherwise are doing it wrong. Maybe they have bad vision, or they could have their gaming setup done wrong (sitting too close to a bit screen or too far from a smaller one), or possibly they just have the colour settings on the TV adjusted wrong. I don't know what each person's problem is, but I know that I can see cloakers just fine. |

If they're standing in a way that light sky or something bright is behind them, they're damn near invisible, even when they're moving.
Perhaps I should take advantage of that when I cloak.

Cloaked enemies are very easy to see, before 1.8 I thought I'd need a scanner, but now I know. In a bright sun-lighted background, they are still easy to see, however when 1.8 was launched this was not the case, maybe they fixed it? or I got better. |

Yes maps where cloaks are the most effective are outdoor open maps. Then even when they are moving they are hard to spot until they are very close. Dark or indoor maps cloaks are nearly pointless. |
