People complain about how they're too good, OP, QQ, wtf, etc. etc.... but if it's so much of a problem all they have to do is pull out a Sica with a Railgun.

A good pilot and better gunners can be a real threat now, makes me wish I still had sp in the things. I've had few greater thrills in this game than piloting a grim with blasters fit around the city maps. Gunners racking up 15-20 kills. I'd go 0/0 and have a blast doing it and that was before their were any war points for pilots. |

Derp ships have always been hard to fly. They are a little better of late as the Militia controls seem to be not determined to kill the pilot.
However, they are the worst vehicles in the entire universe of science fiction flying vehicles. They are a brick. A brick that has two engine/rocket/thruster pods stuck on its butt. Really? Did anybody think to do the math on that? Doubt it since they fly like ... bricks. With an engine stuck up their back end. A truly horrible design.
The average game designer cannot drive or fly. That is the only possibility that I have figured out. As a child they were driven where ever they needed to go by their mother. Who was on the phone and driving either the equivalent of a 80's Buick Skymaster station wagon or a 90's Dodge minivan. They were in the back seat, often the furthest one back since none of their siblings would sit next to them, playing some hand held gaming device.
As a result it is impossible to get a decent vehicle in a video game, odds are worse if it is Science Fiction based. That applies to many ground vehicles as well. Warthog anyone? Racing games and simulators of a specific type might override this condition.
But - don't hold your breath.
And so it goes.

I was on top of him and he was close to the ground, so I thought it was a good idea. He lost all of his health and I dropped down to low armor and I kicked up my AB and flew to the ceiling yelling f*** all the way. Lol, what a great time that was!

Racing games and simulators of a specific type might override this condition. But - don't hold your breath. Actually, the dropships are physically possible. Don't forget those two smaller thrusters out in front that always point down relative to the dropship. I'd assume that the center of mass is close to the back end where the main thrusters are, that way the front thrusters don't need as much force to balance the thing out.
Though if I were designing such a vehicle, I'd give it short wings and mount the rotating thrusters there, like the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey. It's just more efficient to have the wings take the weight of the vehicle and use all of the thrust for forwards thrust, instead of vectoring it downwards and losing some forward thrust.
At Fanfest 2013, where they showed concept art of the racial vehicles, the Amarr dropship looked just like that and it's only because of that that it will be my favorite vehicle in Dust if it ever arrives, and hasn't changed in design.

Had a Python pilot ram me yesterday. He was coming up underneath me....which is what I do when I ram people (like an ORCA!) and I just went full downthrust and watched him explode.
Note to Python pilots: I cannot out maneuver you. Don't jump in my maw.
The AV was wonderful last night. Lost a couple of ships to swarmers, forgers, and rail tanks. I could almost swear that some AVers were coordinated.
We can pickle that.

Yea i had to leave...
what I was trying to add is that Dropshps, though they can kill that is not their primary purpose. The game needs a true "air combat" vehicle. The way things are know Dropships have to get get close to even see a taget meanwhile everyone from end to end on the map can see you coming but the dropship doesn't fly in such away nor has the speed to dodge properly, and before u say I doge all the time, can u tell what ur dong or are u just jumping around like u were on the ground.
Pluse, the ADS turrnet all the turreents are bugged, u point down it wants to move up, CCP needs to fix that, y am I fighting my controles? While I'm trying to aim, a rail gun that I cant see is lineing up on me and the ADS is such a large tartget it will hit, making things worse if u get hit ur aim and the whole DPS rocks and can make u crash. The dropship is the only vehical that realistically and constantly has to deal with this.

And it felt dirty. The pilot was doing pretty well, and all I needed to do was roll up a hill, aim, fire three shots, and recall.
