Exmaple wrote a few months back that what he missed most was the time when dang-near everything was deadly. In Chromosome, there was a distinct lack of "best" options. From suits to weapons, a merc had a number of extremely effective things to choose among. The net effect was exciting combat on a diverse battlefield.
Uprising has had its ups and downs, but for the better past of a year it has not been diverse. For months on end, 9/10 mercs in any battle ran Rifles. And until just recently, 9/10 mercs in any battle ran Med Frames.
To those "Drama Llamas" so overcome with grief, look at the battlefield around you. There are Heavies, Scouts, Tanks, Dropships, Logis, Assaults ... even Commandos! Look at the Killfeed. It no longer reads Duvolle, Gek, Duvolle, Exile, Core Locus. Each and every match today features a diverse landscape that we wouldn't have thought possible six months ago. What we're observing today is clear indication that we are moving in the right direction.
Kudos CCP for reshaping the battlefield. Exmaple would be proud. |

I have not seen so many different things on the battlefield in a long time. I like it I actually am looking forwards to the next month or so to see how things progress.

Of course things need polish here and there, but can we not give CCP credit where it is due?
Kudos CCP for reshaping the battlefield. Exmaple would be proud.
Cloaking to attack invisibly, mil tanks being just as good as sp invested tanks and increased dancing, jumping and ballet maneuvering is NOT moving in the right direction. You are pointing out diversity of items but at what cost to see those get used?
Things are getting sillier. This is not the same kind of diversity as before. This is diversity at the expense of neutering something else and simplifying the equation rather than developing it. CCP Have had to simplifiy things as a quick fix because they can't keep up with good development esp when they have other basic problems that are raking priority.
Sure it all looks cool if you are just a console kiddie not looking beyond the in game specticle. Don't let mere killfeed data trick you as to what is really going on. Look at the game from a company point of view as a product that needs to succeed by standing out rather than blending in. In this regard it is failing.

+1 OP.
Putting other issues aside(and there are, after all, so many) this patch achieved it's goal: balancing, suit role definition, race role definition. There is some bleedover, some obsolescence, some UP and some OP, but it's not bad considering how much has changed. That doesn't happen by accident: CCP made some good decisions in executing a complex task.
Furthermore, this is DUST's first true balancing pass - there will be adjustments, and when other content is released we will have other balancing passes. If CCP can execute on those future releases as well as they have with 1.8 then DUST will evolve towards being a balanced game packed interesting choices and tradeoffs.
I support SP rollover.

The fact is, having a primary weapon that is, by design, gimped within 40m, while not having a real range advantage over weapons with no such restriction, is never going to be popular.

+1 reg.
Yes, there are problems but it's better to see people not using just one single thing like they did for months and months in Uprising.
Whatever Operative might have to say about it, diversity is moving in the right direction; problems come along and they can be solved but the foundation is getting to the right place gradually. Until now it has been in entirely the wrong place.

This has been bugging me for a long time, but is "Exmaple" a typo? Was he supposed to be "Example Core" and just didn't notice the error until he had too much SP to want to restart?

Minority opinion is minority. Just about everyone I've talked to loves 1.8 and people who left many months ago have returned and are also happy with the game. 1.8 is not without its issues but it's in the best place it's been ever from what I see around the net. You generally don#t seem happy with the game and **** on it at every corner. Don't you have anything better to do or better to play or do you like wasting your life on things you don't deem worthwhile? Seriously, I feel sorry for people like you.

1.8 is just awesome. As soon as the event is over and I can actually use weapons I really want to use instead of side weapons only.
But so far I'm running a caldari commando and this is how things go:
"Rail Rifle guy? ******* charge! Sucker got nothing on my shields!"
"**** FUCK ****! WHERE DID THAT LASER RIFLE GUY COME FROM! RUN!"
Before 1.8 every weapon was dangerous. Your fitting didn't matter. Armor or shieldtank? Who cares? eHP was important. And even then TTK was way too short.
Now I actually have to be careful and look what weapons my enemies are using. Because for once people really use different weapons. It got way more interesting playing Dust. Also shield tanking modules like reducing time to recharge make now sense, because you actually may be able to fight one guy long enough.
