One of the components of the cloak is that it not only makes you visually invisible, but it also subtracts an additional %25 from your profile. I have to question why it would do that. As it stands now, so long as I'm cloaked, all I need to do is have one enhanced profile dampener and I will be completely invisible to all forms of e-war. I understand that my suit is meant to be hard to find, but needing only one advanced module to do so while cloaked is a bit ridiculous...
But here's what I'm thinking of.
To my knowledge, your scan profile is based off of the theory of how much energy your suit is putting off, not how visually apparent you are. So then wouldn't it stand to reason that in using a cloak, while you would be invisible to eyes, your suit would need to exert more energy to keep the field up, and thus give off more energy making you easier to scan?
So instead of giving the suit a %25 bonus to your profile, I think it should be a %25 nerf to your profile. This way you're still invisible, but you're not impenetrably invisible to e-war.
Just my 2 isk. Thoughts/critique welcome. |

Modern sensor technologies such as radar and infrared pick up different wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation.
Visible light is also electromagnetic radiation.
A device designed to reduce your visibility across part of the electromagnetic spectrum seems likely to reduce your visibility in other parts as well. It may be optimised specifically for a reduction in visible light output, but it's plausible from a lore-based standpoint for it to reduce your visibility to sensors as well as normal vision.
Also, the lack of reduction to your visibility on a practical level against an alert enemy means that the profile bonus is the main reason a skilled player would be using a cloak against another skilled player. They don't make you invisible, or even particularly close to it most of the time. And you can't honestly argue that an item which reduces your scan profile for a limited duration while it's equipped in place of a weapon (preventing you from firing while dampened) and which has a cooldown period after being used is as effective as a dampener which is permanently active regardless of anything else you're doing at the time. |
