Those original videos were sexy, as someone reminded me here on the forums recently. The game runs fairly poorly on the PS3 as well. Or even Unreal Engine 4 as that seems pretty damn good too.
I realise that this is not going to happen and would probably be incredibly difficult...but just sayin'. |

Actually, they've embedded the Unreal engine into the carbon engine. So it's technically running on the carbon engine already.

Wut. How exactly do you embed an engine into another engine?

The 2009 DUST version sucked royally in terms of graphics to be honest with you. It was just horrible so I don't see why anyone would think that the old DUST looked better than the new one. People must be that blind.

I say, port it to the Quake 1 engine. At least we will have consistent 30 fps then. And the game will not look worse in that engine. And strafe jumping to make all these controller scrubs cry even more about kb/m being overpowered.

Except keyboard and mouse is for scrubs which is why they've been crying for months about aim assist because it's the only excuse they have left.

Wow, mate. Rage. I don't see "PS4" anywhere in that OP. So go back and try reading it again. UE4 does not equal PS4.
As for the graphics, in 2009 that looked good. In 2014 Dust 514 doesn't look any better, at least not on my PS3 so I don't know what anyone else is playing on if they get something better than grainy textures. At some points, like in the quarters, it does look good. Then I go into a match and its a very different story. I didn't realise they were using Carbon, but I was basing off the fact that when it was first released Carbon looked good, and with settings up it still does in EVE now. It just doesn't translate well on PS3, whether that is hardware or coding issues etc. Point is that given the stage the game is at now it seems like the PS3 just can't cope with the game. Even just in terms of things like loading the damn chat windows or fittings, everything is much slower than it could be. I am simply under the impression that updating the engine, and upgrading the hardware, can lead to a game that actually runs properly (and looks good), rather than having to dumb graphics down so much for the game to function. CCP's high res images look great but in practice Dust 514 never looks like that (in my experience).

You're right, I was just assuming that carbon would work on ps4 but not the ps3, so I had a kneejerk reaction. If its a better engine, allows the devs to do more without optimization issues, and works on ps3 and ps4, then why not use it, just as long as it doesnt take too long for them to switch. |

Carbon melts ps3's, that's why they built it in carbon, tested it and half the ps3 caught fire and the other half just melted, and released it with ue3. Therefore for carbon they need to scrap ps3 support. That's why they're working on a ue4 version for ps4 with better graphics but which can still play with ps3's, and then in 3 years they are stopping ps3 support and going carbon on ps4.

We'll basically have to start over from scratch.
When CCP moved to UE3, they scrapped ALL the work they've done with the Carbon engine to do it. Now you want to do it again?

They moved to UE3.5 so they could train the Mighty Video Game Developers with modern tools for building a western style FPS.
One purpose was to save cash. The cost at the time was reported in the industry at $50k versus five to 100 times that for UE4. Of course, nobody actually ever used UE4 on a PS3 game (that I have been able to find anyway).
The goal was to be able to teach them how to use the tools, get a work flow going, establish product release solutions and the myriad details involved in releasing not only a software project but a video game within the console space. The conversion to UE4 should require minimal effort. Indeed, it is known that they have had UE4 for a year or so, possibly longer.
One might suspect that they have Dust514 running on UE4 on a PC currently. True an unknown number of features will be stubbed out but the art assets and the basic functionality of the game should be functional. That doesn't imply it is better, just ported with all of its bugs intact.
Moving from UE4 would go against their plans regarding the now Battle Hardened Veteran Video Game Devs aka CCP/Shanghai. This is the team that has been given both these projects. One is a failure and the other is merely a demo that was used to inform the Dust community that they had been Ganked by CCP. It worked very well in that regard. Possibly the most successful project thus far from CCP/Shanghai.
Another day, another shiv, welcome to New Eden
And so it goes.

This view just shows how some people really don't care about the success of the game.
The PS3 is a fine system. Most people are perfectly content with the PS3. But Dust needs to grow in ways that the PS3 simply will not allow... we've been saying this for years.
Dust demands a LOT of resources from the PS3. Both computational (number-crunching) and physical (hard drive space); and it shows. How many more assets do you think the PS3 can handle on screen than it does now? Do you think it can handle a few dozen aircraft? Bombers? Fighters?
How about better detailed dropsuit armor? How about walls and and large objects that don't wait til your close to them, for them to be loaded into view?
Do you think the PS3, with Dust as it is, can handle major weather effects? Like a blinding blizzard? How about a thunderstorm that has rain and water bouncing off armor, and falling off of buldings? What if that thunderstorm could disrupt electronics?
Do you think the PS3 has the ability to handle everything Dust does now, several times over, WITH added features? I don't know about you, but I've been enjoying Dust again with 1.8, and I really really want to see the game get better. A new platform is needed for that.
The PC is perfect for testing and working bugs out. OF COURSE, there are probably going to be people that try to cheat and hack. That's why us PC gamers will take care of it. So that in the strong likelihood of Legion coming to PS4, console gamers will get a stable game. It has always been like this. Get the kinks out on the PC, because PC gamers are experienced with this, and they can get anything working; and then bring a more polished product to the PS4. This is only going to help Dust in the long term. |

WTF do you even know how much requires carbon?
Eve: In space around 40 fps on max settings on my old pc, no drops with 1 or 60 ships.
In quarters, like 10 to 20 fps on medium quality rendering a single room and character...
The last dust, legion or walkirie needs are less fps... or a better PC to see the same grafic other engines can handle with the half.
The only I life of carbon re the phisics and the hair... |
