Mission Running is the activity of focusing on specific tasks. In EVE you have the options of doing this with different types of missions. Some being streamline others being more unique and rare/occurring only once. I would imagine that Dust would get the same sooner or later but I don't know how they would do it although I've formed my own ideas on how to put it into the game gracefully.
My main question is how do you feel about it? Is it desired? Do you hate mission/daily tasks in MMOs? Do you not care? My other question is , if you care of course, how would YOU do them?
Personally I want them. I think they will enhance how we play the game and connect with New Eden, if done right. One day there should be players who specifically run missions, the same way one day their should be players specifically for FW, the market, the electronically competitive side of Dust(aka arena players), and hardcore Dusters(PC and beyond).
You can find my own ideas over at my tumblr. I'm probably going to expand upon those ideas as more come to me. TL;DR: I would make it so that mission running would incorporate teamwork and would be actually one consuming for the right price. Also imagined it to lean towards serious players as the missions get harder. If you're a casual, you wouldn't take the risk of doing a very long courier mission. The rewards would differ and be more than simply ISK and LP. I didn't create a solo mission set but that'll probably be my next post. Would make at least one mission set to train players and another to get them sped up on the world of New Eden and their possible roles in it.

Glad to hear. I remember people saying they wouldn't want it because it would end up like a carrot on the stick thing but that's only if it's done wrong and completely different from EVE's Mission Running.

Daily / Weekly quests and achievements would be very cool. Maybe some require just one person doing it with multiple different objectives depending on what role someone is doing. Some would require 2 or 3 people to do while others would require 6 people do to it and it would be close. Little PvE focused missions that give ISK and some SP would be great.

Maybe one way to prevent that would be to only count towards your mission objectives when you win. That way you would disencourage players from disengaging from the battle just to do what they had to do for the mission.

I actually had that idea and laid it out in my tumblr. The first set of missions, Security, would have a small set of missions particularly for competitive players where you were on contract for an extended amount of time and in between that time you could get attacked several times. The major part is that you don't get paid until the end of the actual contract. To get full rewards you have to respond to each attack. The same goes with courier missions, which had clones sitting on a courier ship waiting for an attack as they go from point a to point b. You would have to wait for the final destination to get paid. And to make no shows less frequent, agents would contract a number of mercenaries but only the first responders to a battle would get in that battle.

Is what I'm saying lol. What's so bad about having more toys in the sandbox? The more options, the better.

PvE Coop with some friends. That would be my ******* dream.
They could add Mission Running in Dust which doesn't effect Eve in any way and is just fun and games for Dusties. Then they could add modes that influence Eve Online like defending PIs from Drones and so on. And maybe they could even add a mode where they mix up PvE and PvP like in Dark Souls.

I don't support pure PvE like Eve where you run missions and get paid. What I want is a contract system with eve players where Dust players will fight some PvE that benefits the Eve players. Ex: fighting Sleeper defense systems to acquire better goods for a wormhole explorer, fighting off drones that lower planetary infrastructure efficacy.

I just don't want it to be a case where I have to run 3 missions so I can afford to participate in PvP. Eve was like that for me for a long time. I would have to spend a week mining or running missions every time I lost a ship because PvP didn't really pay for clones, implants, or ships. Over time I did more and more industrial activities until I just decided I should avoid unprofitable engagements. I have a lot of options for PvP in Eve, on multiple accounts, and I could afford to die every day for years if I wanted to, except I don't even undock unless there's a few million isk in it for me.
Right now, in Dust, I don't care if I run at a loss in every match for the week because it is fun...

Going even more epic: Require working between Caps (Capsuleers) and Mercs (Mercenaries), yes I WILL shoehorn that in until it becomes well known, in order to complete a mission. Maybe a mission involves hacking in space to lower a the shields of a location so that the Mercs can get into a location and steal/reclaim stuff. Once it was completed, both parties would be rewarded. Basically would work like a raid that was happening in between games.
The problem isn't the ideas, it is how they implement it or if they can implement in. DUST 514 was sold on the idea of connection between PC and PS3 and the promise of what could be. Making that happen, though, is a tad bit harder...
Here's hoping.

You know what? I never thought of that. I wouldn't want mission running that would make eve pilots rely solely on dust mercs but I would want some kind of effort from both sides. I left EVE players out of my ideas though because I didn't consider it mission running but player contracts but maybe you're on to something.

This could be done additionally. But like always Dust must also be able to be played without interaction with Eve players.

I'm fed up fighting either FOTM chasing, glitch exploiting, protostoming asshats or noobs fresh from the academy that die before I can get an enjoyable fight out of them.

This is vell0cet's idea. Its a form of PvE involving Pilots paying mercs to explore abandoned stations and shipwrecks to collect rare and extreamly valuable items. If all gos well then the mercs get isk, and the pilot gets the valuable item. I put a link to her thread here if you want to read the details.

Doing more than reading it. Acting out a scenario in the RP section right now.
