I've been playing this game for a year now and I made some thought about what could make this game better according to me. I would like to share those thought and open them to be discussed with other players. Maybe some of them will inspire CCP ^^
First, when we create a character, we choose a race. More than jus changing quarters decoration, I think it should provide some bonus. I always though that as we are born Gallente for instance, mastering Gallente material use should be easier. In-game, I would reduce the learning factor by 1x for every Gallente material skill (Gallente suits, weapons and equipment).
Next, I would add some carrier "steps" to mercenaries. As we start, we are in military academy. Here, I would give access to everything in MLT variant for free, while keeping all STD and higher tiers material locked. Academy battles would then provides MLT only fight, allowing testing everything. As it is an academy though, we would not gain any ISK but only SP.
Whenever the player feels like it or when he reach a SP cap, he may leave the academy to start a freelance carrier in a npc merc agency. About npc agencies, I think they deserve more attention than they have now. While they could have a fixed tax rate, they could give bonuses that would make the agency choice an interesting one. Those bonus could be action related (like rewarding some weapons kills, other agencies kills, hacking, repairing or revivingGǪ) or market related (like providing some price reduction on certain items or delivering an item stock regularly) As a new-comer, the player would have a low reputation and could only access low-tier contracts. Those contracts would provides lower ISK but insure PRO mercs free battles (they would gain so low ISK there, it would be pointless for them). As he builds some reputation through victories, he would unlock higher tier contracts and FW. He would still have the choice between those contracts though. This would allow mercs to try out new things from the start. For instance, a player start with assault suits and get quite good to it. Finally, he wants to try scout suits even though it wasn't his first choice. He could build a STD fit and try it in low-tier contracts without having to spend lots of SP and ISK to unlock directly AVC or PRO to be at his current level as an assault.
Finally, the last carrier steps would be joining a merc corporation and thus getting access PC. Not much to develop here as I never got any interest in PCGǪ
