I've been thinking about it a little while, and I think an Arena mode would suit Dust perfectly. It can be implemented easily on current maps and in my mind it should work a little like this:
- Some stadium stands would be nice on existing maps, to show this is a stadium type of battle. Or perhaps a TV ship flying over the battlefield recording the battle for televised broadcast to the rest of New Eden. Penalties for firing at the TV crew?
- Since this is entertainment for the masses of New Eden, you can do anything. Like introduce the popular game modes shooter fans like to play, without having to spend too much energy on explaining why and how it ties into the mythos. So game modes like Capture the Flag and a more 'intimate' objective mode more akin to Zones in Warhawk. And Deathmatch too of course.
- Because it's a sports event basically, there can easily be rules set on these games, like "Only standard and militia gear allowed." to allow for a more fair experience to new players to Dust.
These are the important points. It will give veterans something new to play. It will give new players the ability to fight without being overwhelmed by the options available. Rather let them work up their courage to enter the PROPER New Eden. And as I said, it should be relatively easy to implement with the current technology. And I for one am for more game modes in Dust. |

One of the visions of the previous EP was an arena mode called 'Gladiator Arena' or something. When I talked to him it was something along the lines of something you could build on PC land and would allow corps to host special matches with gamemodes that don't make sense in the context of space war--like capture the flag for example but also the ability to create your own rules. There was to be streaming up to EVE and ISK betting on the victor too.
As a dream of the old EP, it is probably RIPing along with Penetration Mode'.

I like this idea a lot. I would like to see an arena battle with two sides separated by a movement barrier. So you have to stay on your side and use cover. Reckon there could be some fun tactics in a match like that..

ISK betting and streaming to EVE would be grand. Tie the two games together more.
Would also be fun to see Concord a****** whoever was stupid enough to fire on the TV crew/spectators.
What was.. uhm... penetration mode again? |

Hosted and sponsored by the Caldari State.
To curb their aggressive tendencies, the Caldari actively pursue and sponsor a range of sporting activities. Many of these are bloody, gladiatorial-like competitions, while others are more like races. Whatever the sport, they love betting on the outcome, making gambling a massive industry in the State.

What month is this?
Cause we have had requests for Arena mode for over a year. At least monthly there is a small flood of new users that think that will solve them not having fun in Dust.
And the Dev reply is the same reply we have been getting since then as well.
Personally, no I don't think Arena mode is the best idea to address even some of the issues.
Matchmaking is the actual fix that is needed. Even if we have to wait 10minutes for a match, choosing to go ADV vs ADV has to be more fun than getting Proto stomped or doing the Proto stomping.
Welcome to Dust
And so it goes.

I never understood why you took out corporation battles where it was over isk rather than a district we used to have 1v1's in there whilst the other 15 players on each side would watch or if someone from 1 corp said "my tank is better stronger than yours" we would put them into a corp battle and let them battle it out. i would like to see this come back because tbh PC is to extreme and expensive for the average player. atleast with corp battles the lesser developed corp's can have a fight against each other and make it an weekly/monthly event for there corp. just my idea: bring back corporation battles.

I m not sure I really understand the OP(italianfag here) That TV you are suggesting... Is it just a think on the map or will we be able to see arena matches from our space houses? Cause it d be wonderful if we could.
(I dont know if you ve ever played GW but we were able to see high lvl pvp matches, and when I reached that lvl it was funny knowing I was on TV)
I think of it like you are in your space house and you start Lookin TV and you can See these matches, and it is Like a NBA match with banners and advertising (with stuff like the new weapons, an industry advertisment, boosters, a message from minmatar militia) and you can choose between matches.
You can also say to your friends to watch the same Channel you r Lookin at and you ll be able to comment the match and the players.
What do you guys think? Will it be possible CCP? It d be funny and it d add a bit of rpg (after war you r finally home watching tv) |

Proper TV functions would be cool, but primarily it's just an excuse to have some more "unrealistic" game modes like CTF. CTF doesn't exactly fit into the Dust universe without an excuse for why, and a stadium game is the perfect excuse. But yes, there are MANY MANY options down that road. |

The most realistic way for them to handle it is via a spectate mode not shown via your tv, due to ram limitations. Just upload game data to another server that then will broadcast all the info to the spectators to avoid lag issues, like how dota 2 does it.
Game mode wise, would be interesting what people set up, an all lav Demo Derby!
I am the Apple and the Oreo, The First to die and respawn, but last to leave the match.

Hypnothetically, when they add the arena mode (last date we were given was at the 2012 Fanfest where we were told they'd be out the following year, so we should see them approximately a year ago), not only will DUST players be able to bet on the fights, but EVE players as well. Also, there's going to be spectator options.
All this will be coming out last year. Obviously.

The further the game develops, the more it will divide the player groups.
Competitive players will focus on the arena. Casuals will focus on public contracts and PVE. Hardcore players will focus on the meta. Virtual Entrepreneurs will focus on the market. Roleplayers will focus on FW, mission running, and other factional-based contracts.
Just let the game grow. The sooner we get the arena, the better.

And we're talking about a selection of some of the most PC hardened vets we have in this game, it can be very cool if we get it to work....

I'm thinking there is also the possibility that we could make mock battles, this could be what the arenas are, but this allows you to not waste clones and save money if we are going to be true to realism
Here's how it goes:
- The mock battle uses the equivalent suits in your drop suits, but it modifies all of the guns and explosives to not actually do significant damage, but to add simulated damage to enemies. So, lul essentially a virtual fight within a virtual fight.
- could have merc "death" and "reanimation" work in one of several ways, 2 of which: whenever a merc's suit registers death it will activate a relatively large (large without being noticeable because fake suit's armor and shields don't actually need to be full powered) teleporter imbedded in the suit to teleport it back to the MCC, taking at least 10 seconds. I haven't done all of my homework so I don't know if this is how teleporting works in dust. The other main option is to have mercs consciousness actually transferred but the now lifeless clone isn't actually dead and is completely reusable (assuming that's how it works). As for the bodies in this scenario it is just kind of assumed that they disappear or maybe a mixture of these 2 possibilities
- Could have total cost to join a fight be 20 isk or so and give the mercs maybe 1/4 of the total normal sp
- For added realism could have mercs that fall of cliffs and actually kill their clones penalized with a max of like 5 real deaths or real tank explosions. Maybe a cost of 80% of actual value of the standard militia type for each vehicle crashed. and for drop suits in crashed vehicles and falling to death; the value of the clone minus standard amount it is worth in biomass and plus like 2 K for the fake suit
- primarily for private matches, corp v corp, and being random, but a public option might be useful |
