Does your scan profile actually make you shimmer less when moving as a scout? Or is it that your scan precision is doing it?
I had this one enemy that was near invisible with only the Predator/Klingon cloaking device distortion running around at high speed.
Then I was testing the cloak for the first time last night and sprinted around right in front of several enemy players and they did not see me at all. I thought they would see me as well as I pick up other scouts.
Even in my heavy suit with crap scanning I easily saw this one scout. I see scouts as practically non cloaked with my Gal scout with the above exception.

Scan profile determines whether you're able to be picked up on passive scans or by active scanners (smaller is better), if it's lower than enemy precision they cant see you unless they're looking at you.
Scan precision determines whether you're able to see others on your passive scanner (note that most suits have a base range of 10m, and if a target is outside of your passive scan range you won't see them unless you're looking at them). Scan precision is also a stat on active scanners that determines what it can see, in both cases lower numbers for precision is better.
Both have no effect on your own cloak which is purely visual aside from the free complex profile dampener on the cloaking device, though they can still get a red reticule if they've got a weapon aimed at you, they should also see a blue shimmer if you move. |

No, I'm talking about the actual graphics when looking straight at the person. I'm seeing less or more shimmer and actual appearance of the person or nothing but the ripple effect. And these are all scouts.

I feel your pain and am just as confused with it. I tried to run in a circle inside of a null cannon and hit a glass door. No visual effects what so ever and I thought it was CCP physics that caused me to get stuck. I pulled the trigger on my SG and was surprised to see +50 appear on my screen. I hope they clarify what, if anything, causes shimmer to intensify.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I feel as though it's just the certain area on the map that defines how well you can see a cloaked scout. As in an area with more or less light. More or less complex textures, etc. |

No there are clearly varying degrees of shimmer. The scout that blended in almost completely was running around both the building at D on Border Gulch and around it outside. Same shimmer. I don't know if I appeared any more noticable.
The other scouts were in the main building area on Ashland. I was completely invisible however in the same location.
I wonder if it was active scan, their profile or my scan strength. It is a noticable difference in graphic shimmer.
