Up until 1.8 I was a Gallente Logi, running the full logi fit.
With the refund of my skill suit and the bonus from the last event, I've decided to try a new path. At the moment I'm heavily leaning toward the Minmatar Assault Suit as I have two minmtar weapons (Mass Driver and Combat Rifle).
Have never needed a side arm so far, so I've not skilled into it. Now I'm looking at them and leaning toward one of the SMG variants.
Does anyone have any advice regarding the suits and weapon choices? |

If you want to go assault go light or commando .
Go for assault or rail gun's . ( do not go breach rifle ) . i would not use mass driver ! maybe combat and rifle's ! Go pistol not smg !
Use eq. like injector's and armor plate's as well as shield re-generators
if you are a new player go for simple class profession's so you can restock easy .
If you want to be quick go for a cloak and a light class with a shot gun - always work's !
Hope this kinda helped !
Thumps up ?

I prefer the SMG because of its tight hipfire (when skilled up) and its the little engine that could. But that's because I don't have the best aim and a pistol requires that in tight situations. SMG is a nice deterrent and clone dropper. Also the magsec is another one good with hipfire.

Don't put any points in suits until you have your core skills up. It gives you a chance to feel out which style of play suits you best while still improving your suits. Then, once you have your core skills up and a better idea of how you like to play, you will get more out of the suit you skill into because you were a smart guy and put your first ~5M SP into suit upgrades. At a minimum get Armor and Shield Upgrades to 5/5 (in the Dropsuit Upgrades tree). This will give you an additional 25% Armor and Shields on EVERY SUIT YOU EVER USE. Well worth investing in up front, trust me.
The "battlefield roles" are as follows:
Assault = slayers, front line soldiers Logi = pure support, healers, equipment carriers Scout = recon/infiltration Basic Heavy/Sentinel = infantry tanks, extremely high health, wield heavy weapons Commando = front line fire support, NOT front line soldiers, 2 light weapons allow extreme battlefield adaptability
You'll find people that play one suit in another's role, but this is generally how the chips fall.

SMG is a great sidearm paired with anything bar an AR or Assault CR as it duplicates there function just at a shorter range.
So it pairs very nicely with the MD.
Scrambler Pistol is very good if your aim is good, has a nice range and can be a OHK if you tap them in the head. Best used when someone is hacking or sniping. But I prefer leaving REs behind snipers. Assault version is great in hectic environments too.
A MagSec/SMG combo is a great thing to try out right now or a MagSec/scrambler pistol. |

Shameless plug here for the Minmatar Commando (my preferred suit).
Pro's: Fat damage bonus to CR and MD Most mobile commando suit...excellent for flanking
Con's: Squishiest Commando...less hp than some brick-tanked scouts Large hitbox...so your survivability is on par with some medium suits
But let me tell you, I personally feel the Min Commando is one of those things where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts...once you realize hoe powerful the CR/MD combo is on the Min Commando, you'll never, ever go back.
That said, the Min Assault gets very useful bonuses, as well. I'm just a Commando through-and-through.

The M-209 Assault SMG has an impressively long range.

Minmatar Assault is a flanking suit. More speed/Less health. Play it like a slow scout suit.
SMG has always been a very solid sidearm, particularly in Close Quarter Combat.
CCP believes that the Assault suits need a bit more love, which suggest good things for Assault suits in the future.

I've been running an SMG forever, tried the other sidearms but always go back. Try some things out tho and see what fits for you.

If you do go with Minmatar Assault, then I definitely recommend SMG over the MagSec, that bonus to magazine size will be a huge help. Further, as someone else pointed out the assault variants have decent range, which pairs very nicely with the MD or non assault variant of the CR. Based on the fact that you have the MR and CR skills already, I would highly recommend sticking toMMinmatar suits to stack bonuses, but as said their assault suit is designed for out maneuvering your enemy, so if you are more of a head on fighter then you may want to consider their commando suits instead...that damage bonus will be a major thing on your MD and benefit the CR as well, which would already pair very nicely with the MD regardless of whether you use the normal or assault CR. |
