If you look at it, all the original weapons in the game contained all variants to be a placeholder for the other races.
Assault Rifle contains : *Assault*, Breach, Burst, Tactical. Assault being the Gallente Breach being similar to the Rail Burst being similar to the CR Tactical being similar to the SR
Pistol contains(ed): Basic, Assault, breach, tactical. Basic being Amarr Assault being like the Ion Pistol Breach being like the Bolt Pistol The tactical was taken off the market but is still available as random salvage in game. Two Minmitar pistols for later down the road, like a revolver?
Launchers are too racial specific of a weapon to be converted to another race being similar only to a general, umbrella category.
Sniper Rifle contains: Basic, Tactical, Charge. Basic probably relates to the Minmitar Precision Rifle Tactical relates to the Gallente Sniper rifle (being the shortest ranged and highest RoF one) Charge is Caldari.
HMG of course will have different forms but none related. Just to add variety because it's the only anti-personnel heavy weapon.
Submachine gun: Basic, Assault, Breach. Basic - Minmitar Assault - Possibly similar to the potential Gallente SMG but probably not. Breach - similar to Caldari Magsec
The original weapons will have a major shift once its racial variants have been deployed. It happened with the Assault Rifle, and it's happening with the pistols.
I would assume when the full sniper variants come out (not for amarr because they have the laser rifle according to CCP) The Tactical Sniper rifle would be similar to the Gallentes long rifle. The Basic would go the the Minmitars Precision rifle and Charged will probably become the bases for all Caldari sniper rifles just like all their other weapons are charged.
With all this being said, I'm sure a weapons respec will be upon us once we get full racial basic weaponry just like the suits, they won't do it now because it's not all there.
Assault Rifles: done (4/4) Pistols: done (4/4) Heavy weapons: 2/4 Launcher type weapons: 3/4 Long Rifles: 2/4 of the way *Submachine guns either 1/3 or 1/4 hard to imagine Amarr with a SMG because of who they are, also there are only 3 variants of SMGs, Breach is obviously Caldari and Assault would probably be Gallente.
tl:dr So to get an idea of when we might get a respec, we are about 66% of the way there to a possible weapon respec.
P.S. Minmitar weapons due to their whole combat philosophy will naturally have many different variants of the exact same weapon so Minmitar Variants of weapons will, probably, always be more than the other races.

You forgot NK's.
And there is no guarantee that even with all racial weapons released that CCP will re spec weapons because grenades are included in weapon area and those have yet to be fully released either.
It seems next patches will be racial vehicles and balancing, let's hope they release more weapons, and all grenades and equipment.. I also think weapon mods are coming (sights, crosshairs, silencers, grips). So there's still a long way to go before any kind of re-spec and even in the likelihood they are all released a re-spec possibility is low, talking 20-25%.
