I've been drawing out a concept on how this mechanic could be improved, which it really needs to be. I want to hear what everyone else thinks about it.
Do you believe all roles are rewarded fairly based on what they do?
How can we improve the active SP reward system?
Is the ISK rewards worth it?
Do WPs really reward teamwork? If not how could they?
I've also been thinking that WPs should be a very dynamic system, as well as how you gain SP. For instance if you take out a higher value target you should be rewarded more than if you took out the new kid on the block. Taking out the larger threat is more beneficial to the team than taking out the guy who isn't as skilled.
A dynamic assist system should also go into place. If I take out 1% of the eHP of a target and someone else takes out 85%, am I justified the same assist reward as the guy who took out 85% of the eHP of the enemy?
I believe SP should be rewarded for player advancement as WPs are rewarded for team advancement. Standing around in the MCC isn't advancing yourself so why are you rewarded? Your skill should determine how much skill points you earn.
I should be rewarded SP like how I'm rewarded WPs. If I kill 3 people while my health is <30% and I'm being shot at that's skill and that's character advancement so I want SP directly for doing that.
Why is the losing team payed nearly the same as the winning team? What are they getting payed for? Losing? This is a non-competitive endorsing mechanic that pats the loser on the back and says "You did good enough pal, here's a nice reward". No, this is supposed to be a competitive game. If I lose I want to look my TV in the eyes and say "**** you", not "Oh well, I got payed a lot anyways :)". What's the purpose of winning?
What if we're rewarded ribbons or medals for doing crazy stuff like taking out 4 dropships in one match. What if they reward us ISK directly? Or SP even if we reached our max SP? This will give hardcore players an incentive to keep playing rather than "Well looks like my grinding is over for the week, I reached my max SP"
Those are some of my thoughts, what are yours?

As a full time logi I do feel I am rewarded for my effort but I don't always feel like the killers are. Most times I score well above someone who has has went 12/2. I don't think that they should be rewarded too much but a slight increase would probably be nice. I do well because I enable players to do their job better and lose less ISK through deaths. I feel like I am compensated appropriately but I would like to see others rewarded a little better, especially for winning.
I don't totally agree with more SP for killing higher tier gear. Payouts are just about right and I don't think rewarding higher tier kills would do as much a just rewarding slayers more. SP shouldn't be based on tier of the gear, WP, ISK and salvage is fine but SP should be given for doing your job well not cherry picking kills, that should be rewarded with better payouts in the other areas.
SP should be given for a job well done not the value destroyed and I don't think a progressive SP reward system would do much for the game. We should want CCP to spend their time getting the most bang for our buck and I don't think a different SP system would be the best way to spend development time that is already slow and or limited.

Meta level, WP, and ranking vs your team should all be taken into account in pubs.

The WP system is very close to being good with the exception of changing a few rewards here and there.
I feel like the kill assist system works great. It is nice to know that the random blues will help me with an enemy even if it is with the purpose of attempting to steal the kill. It inspires some form of teamwork between those who are not on comms with each other. The same concept applies to people racing to be the first to hack or getting away with some cheap assist points.
The SP system on the other hand seems a bit of a mess.
SP rewarded for being in battle is crap and lets players just screw around in every match until they burn up their bonus cap and log out. The only issue there becomes how to keep newbies progressing at some base rate while not continuing to punish players who play the game more with a diminished return.
The ISK payouts could use some small tweaking to push a little bit of the money down the board to the players who can not consistently place top 5-6 where you need to be for the current system to support you. |
