As the title says, so right now I really don't see many going AV even with the warpoint reward from doing damage to vehicles and ambush limiting two vehicles for both teams. I was in an ambush not too long ago where there was a tank and a dropship wreaking havoc on my team. We lost and it wasn't cuz of the enemy team, it was mostly because there were three guys on my team including me that had AV gear and were focused on the vehicles. We didn't take the dropship and the tank down, and any time the dropship shields were down it flew away and came back less than a minute later.
Basically while the two things that CCP brought with 1.8 were alright hut not enough to really get many people to get a whole squad to go AV. Maybe it's just been me though not seeing much AV in these battles?
Also during the presentation of Dust in 2009 CCP did say that calling in vehicles costed WP, it doesn't sound that bad to me. Sure vehicle only users are gonna be mad that they have to get WP to call in vehicles but doing some work on their feet isn't that hard.
Or maybe the first vehicle that someone calls in doesn't cost any WP but after that the person or squad is going are going to need plenty of WP to have authorization to call in each vehicle?

As an example, a member of our Corporation has every last skillpoint he has ever earned in the game in Assault Dropships. He is a specialist, as this game encourages people to be, and enjoys a fairly good level of performance from his chosen vehicle as a result.
Now you're saying he should be forced to take Starter Fits into fights with people who specialized into infantry just to be able to use the vehicle he put all that work into?

Along with that, it would discourage people from skilling into vehicles, and cause the role to stagnate. What if I forced you to use a Dropship until you made enough WP, then play as an Infantry unit?
Wouldn't be so fun now would it?

Even i think its balanced at the moment. I can ruin a tankers day in ambush when i use a cloaked scout with swarms on it. Did you even tried to AV or are you just surrendering and get killed over and over?

Bad idea .........very bad idea .. Things are better for ambush now ..... Or will be once AV gets it's bugs fixed . Vehicle users have just as right to play their roles as Infantry does . And I say this as a dedicated vehicle hunter .
No job is worth doing if you don't get paid in the end .

Swarms do far lower damage than they should, and the thing with skills not applying after you spawn was making Forge Guns unable to fire.

I sort to want to avoid the whole 'kill streak' feel that CoD has established though, maybe for arenas but for war modes I think a better option is timers like a fueled bandwidth. Too many vehicles on the field? OB from barge takes longer to charge. ect ect.
More you deploy the slower the bandwidth grows to allow other types of support like orbital structures, drone deploys and the like.

Only died 4 times and yes I tried using AV, was using swarms since forge guns don't seem to work.

Starts out at zero because all the folks spawning in consumes all of it.
As the team fights on bandwidth grows.
If the team call in vehicles or other permanents they consume not only bandwidth but bandwidth regeneration rate. Additional mechanics can be implemented such as breaking other vehicles, capturing comm towers and objectives could increase max bandwidth, or bandwidth regeneration, or reduce the effect of permanents consuming bandwidth.
Temporary bandwidth consumers can be used without penalty provided there is enough to use it such as sensor sweeps, orbital strikes and orbital spawns.

Artificial limits on vehicles is a tacit admission that they are too good at too many things.
They need to be given unique mision profiles that make players consider the need for them before deploying. If they aren't universal tools then there will be a natural limit. So if dropships were really effective at troop deployment but not at shooting infantry solo, then you would never see four of them on the field because there would be no payload for them all. |
