The soluion to assault suits is quite simple:
Instead of PG/CPU bonus (lame), +3% damage per level to light weapons.
Everyone will be happy again about assault suits.The unicorns will reappear. At least a little.
By the way, my assault suit can't even jump anymore... literally.
It is just sad
I hope CCP to fix this shortly.

I'm very happy with the cpu/pg bonus. No thanks.
Furthermore, my amarr assault seems to be more agile than in 1.7 even though I have more armor in it than I had before. |

Giving the assault a damage bonus that is better than the commando would be something even Cpp wouldn't do

You run the Min Assault?
Min suits Mobility has finally been addressed in 1.8. The stamina regen buff makes them far more mobile than other suits.
Seriously, a squad of Minmatar suits can book it from one objective to the other in no time now. Even the Logi's and heavies.
