Ok, so they nerfed my rail tank into a wimpy little lump of slow useless metal that still drives like a brick of lead in a hole in the ground... now they need to give me a new weapon to compensate.
Mortar Launcher.
60mm Mortar: ROF - 20 RPM Range: 400 meters at 45 degree angle Max ammo - 30 Damage per round - 350 hp Blast radius - 8 meters Movement Penalty 7% Hip Fire Accuracy Bonus: -90%
Only one capable of being "hip fired" directly at the target, but will only fire (flat straight trajectory) 75 meters when fired directly at the target unless you angle it up... of course then it wouldn't be direct fire then and would be a pain to aim as you would be looking above the target then. Can be carried in a sidearm weapon slot By anyone.
80mm Mortar: ROF 15 rpm Range 575 meters at 45 degrees Max ammo 20 Damage per round 550 hp Blast radius 10 meters Movement Penalty 5%
Cannot be hip fired, MUST be set up first. Takes up a light weapon slot and must be carried on a medium class or heavy class suit... too heavy to be carried on a light class suit.
120mm Mortar: ROF 10 rpm Range 700 meters ar 45 degrees Max ammo 10 Damage per round 750hp Blast radius 12 meters Movement penalty 3.75%
Heaviest handheld weapon in the game, must be carried by a heavy class suit. In a heavy weapon slot.

I like the overall concept but it seems a little overpowered to be just a sidearm weapon. This should be a Primary weapon. The 60mm could be light, the 80 could be medium, the 120mm could be heavy. It would be great for squad tactics and anti squad tactics. Make it available to every level but the heavier the suit, the more powerful the weapon. |

The only reason I thought of placing it in the sidearm slot is because it needs a suit to weapon size restriction of some kind to not be too overpowered, and the 60mm is the only one that can be hip fired.
Also, when hip firing the 60, it has no aim point, no cross hair, no meter, gauge, or range finding capabilities and a max flat trajectory range of 75 meters and your accuracy rating is reduced by 90%... basically you are firing blind from a weapon you are hanging from one hand at your side that just happens to have a trigger attached to the carrying handle instead of firing as soon as you drop the round down the tube.

Minmitar, conventional mortar round. Gallente, air cannon Caldari, small scale artillery rockets Amarr, charged particle ball catapult (like the Gungan ball launcher in Star Wars maybe?)

Yeah, I agree completely. There needs to be a restriction of some kind.
I don't think I explained myself very well because I was essentially saying the same thing as you. The 60mm can only be equipped on Light dropsuits, the 80mm can only be equipped on Medium dropsuits, and the 120mm can only be equipped on Heavy dropsuits.
That way the light dropsuits aren't rocking a 120 mm. If you want to make it so it can be equipped on the set suit and higher, (80 can be equipped to medium or light, 120 still just heavy, and the 60 to all) that would work as well. |

Yeah, did some editing to the original post, made them all fit in non sidearm slots.
60mm, and 80 mm are light weapon slots but the 60 is restricted to light class suits and the 120mm is still a heavy weapon slot only.

Yeah, I'm digging that. The entire concept just brings a new element to the game. We have infantry, tankers, Air Force, and SF, why not add Field Artillery to the mix? Could you imagine using this and dropping rounds onto a null cannon held by reds as your teammates are advancing? Make sure it has the whistle and the delayed impact just like a regular mortar to give players an opportunity to get out of the area. However, no impact designator to tell them where it's landing. A 200 meter shot with a 60 mm should take about 2-2 1/2 seconds from launch to impact., so over the course of 21 seconds, with no sight adjustment, you can paint an entire area with raining death.
Even with the 60mm, when it hits and blows, if people are clumped it can do enough damage to enough enemies to swing the engagement into your teams favor. And there is enough time in between shots so you can't lob 6 shells into an engagement area in 10 seconds. If you drop the mortar, fire it, and immediately go for the next mortar, we're still looking at 3 seconds in between impact. If people are standing around after the first one hits, they are morons and deserve to get blown up...
The more I'm thinking about it, the more I'm loving this idea. |

Seriously.
Could even have a detonation selector on the shell too so you could air burst it if you wanted.

Air detonation would be a great feature. It would have to be set so if you are going to air detonate, you can't prep for the next shot until the trigger is pulled. If you pull a new mortar, you are not allowed to pre-detonate the one currently in flight.
