When you spawn in, you are effectively cloaked. It normally dissipates after 2(?) seconds, or if you do something like switch weapons.
When you have a cloak active, and switch to something else, it dissipates.
But here's annoying thing:
When you're under spawn-in cloak, and switch to suit cloak eq... it drops your initial cloak immediately, before you have a chance to activate your own.
This is silly. Switching TO cloak, should not drop cloak field, IMO. Sure, it should time out as normal, but there should be a way to spawn in, and switch to your own cloak with no gap.
I'd like to see either an official statement from CCP of, "we support spawn camping, so we're explicitly design things for it to be unavoidable", or, ideally, some kind of anti-spawn-camping fix, for those who have cloaks.
Potential ideas for the fix, could be either that switching to cloak, does not disrupt your spawn-in cloak... Or, that when you spawn in, in the field (rather than in MCC) that you are automatically set to have your own cloak module active, if you have one. |

DON'T SPAWN ON CRU'S BEING CAMPED
(Not trying to be a jerk, but really. Don't spawn on camped CRU's. This should be a non issue.)

Current system mimics EVE and gate camping.
Devs are always afraid of removing features from the game because it induces backlash. Vets and KDR whores are pretty accustomed to spawn camping. Are you saying you should remove this feature from them? Preposterous! How are they supposed to get their easy kills now and claim it is skill if you enable a way around that!?

Granted its a cheap move, but how is it any different from idiots who cross open terrain under fire?
If you spawn into a CRU that you KNOW is being camped, then my sympathy goes out the window. Stop spawning, and go somewhere else. They will get bored, hack it, and your team will be better off on clones.

That would only be a "non-issue", if CRUs had built-in scanners again so you could SEE that it was camped. Otherwise, only way you find out, is if you, or someone else on your squad, spawns in and loses a clone without any recourse to save it.
And then okay great your squad is doing fine.. but what about the other players on your team??
(and if you think that's fine.. then you are being a jerk, whether you're trying or not )

If they dont, then DUST is demonstratably different and thus the EVE example doesnt fit.

Oh that's a great idea. That way when you see an enemy about to hack your CRU spawn in and kill them. That doesn't stop spawn camping and creates a whole other issue. Like someone said before if you spawn into a CRU that's being watched you deserve to die. "but wah wah how are we supposed to know".. Hmm well if there's no other blue dots around or if you see blue dots disappearing by the CRU, it's probably being camped. The objective of the game is to 1) remove all clones or 2) blow up the mcc. Why wouldn't you spawn camp, it's not COD, it's not an exploit; it's a sensible tactic for achieving objective number 1. HTFU.
ANYWAY, about the actual discussion of the thread. I see no real reason why you shouldn't be able to activate a cloak while in spawn cloak. Although I also see no reason why you would need to do it. If the CRU is being camped, they are going to see the blue shimmer as you try to run... Unless you plan to just stand there until everyone leaves.

With a cloak that lets you just stand there for 60+ seconds... why yes, I think "just stand there until everyone leaves" can be an excellent strategy.
Worse case, you can at least stand there and have a longer time to wait until they're looking the wrong way, before attempting to run for it or something.

When you jumping through the gate you have automatic 10 or 15 sec cloak(it decloaks you if you move), in order to use your own cloaking modules you need to decloak first then immediately turn on your own cloak. Usually people that camping gate have time to spot your ship position and 'try' to decloak you by approaching your ship('try' because it is usually too late).
But yea, we have similar mechanic in EVE - life is brutal. But in EVE you can warp to different spot, Dust doesn't have that..
