So we've gotten a lot of new weapons since the launch of the game, some light weapons, some sidearms, I'd like to just talk about light weapons for now.
I like to classify the existing light weapons into 5 categories long range specialist - rail sniper standard infantry - plasma rifle, rail rifle, scrambler rifle, combat rifle specialist infantry - mass driver, laser rifle close quarter specialist - shotgun light antiverhicle specialist - swarm launcher, plasma cannon
So we have a wide spread of different playstyles available from these weapons, as well as a spread of representation from each races tech. I also suppose depending on your point of view, the rail sniper and shotgun could both be placed under the 'specialist infantry' category.
There's already a lot of threads about new heavy and sidearms weapons to fill out those categories, but I'd just like to chat about filling in the gaps of the light weapons.
1 to 3? more long range specialist - generally the only type of weapon you see in this category is a sniper rifle. I could easily see amarr having a laser sniper that charges up for a powerful shot. gallente I don't see having a sniper, but someone might have a cool idea for one. For minmitar i think it could be fun to have a long range explosive based weapon.
1 to 2 more specialist infantry weapons - these kinds of weapons can really make the racial tech stand out from the others with mechanics that don't fit into similar categories. The mass driver and laser rifle are two good weapons that just don't have similar mechanics to other weapons right now in the game. The caldari and gallente specialist infantry weapons should also be different from all other weapons, I don't really have any ideas for what these could be.
1 to 3 more close quarter specialist weapons - shotguns, net/web guns, weapons with high damage short range, or things that can incapacitate or disable your opponent while up close. Each race could have their own shotgun, but that would get boring, flamethrowers could be added in, weapons that blind opponents, dibilitate or disable them as well.
1 to 2 more anti vehicle weapons - I see caldari having a rail-like weapon that fires a large round, or something similar to a smaller forge gun. Amarr heavy lasers would be how I see their light av weapon working out.
So what do you all think will be the future of a more fleshed out variety of light weapons? or do you think there's some category of weapon unexplored so far that will be added in? |
