I know the game is called 'DUST 514' but please stop theming things around a number that noone cares about but you to the detriment of the game. I'm sure you all love your little in-joke, but to the rest of us are growing tired and concerned.
This is an intervention. We need to save DUST from your compulsions before the Social Services take it away and give it to Sony. You 'released' the game on 5/14, knowing full well it wasn't ready. You released 1.8 at 514 megabytes, knowing full well it wasn't enough. Please stop hurting yourselves, not to mention poor little DUST, because of a number.
Please.

I'm not really sure if you're serious and really think the size of the patch has any relevance and connection with the issues...

With the patch being EXACTLY 514 megs, I am very suspicious of the number of errors. Especially because of how small this patch is compared to every other patch we have had. The patch size is suspect in any case, because to get 514 they either cut content and corners, or filled the patch with junk data to get to 514. It's worrying that they like the number so much, at the detriment to quality control.

Ok. What about if they had made the patch 514GB? Would that be ok then?

Spolier: This whole game is a clever social experiment conducted by an esteemed board of Scandinavian social psychologists codenamed Covenant 514. They are aiming to discern how far a population can be pushed before the fabric of order erodes. The goal is to find a level of discontent at which a population can be sustained indefinitely without revolting. They will use this research to teach governments how to get the most out of exploiting their citizens while skirting the very edge of major civil unrest, thus allowing them minimum human investment for maximum labor profit. They will sell this research to the highest bidding world power and use the proceeds to fund a Scandinavian coup, positioning themselves as a new world power and attempting to wrest control of Europe and then the world, launching WWIII.
TLDR: Dust 514=WWIII |

Seeing as the game isn't anywhere near three digit gigs in size, no it would not. It would be the same obsession in the opposite extreme.
You are just attempting to be contrary, so instead of insulting you I shall provide a similar example. If you pay a contractor to build your house, you expect a house to be built. If they have the time and resources to build you a nice little house, you expect the nice little house you agreed upon. If the house is obviously unfinished (missing walls, doors, etc.) because the contractor wanted to try and keep things under an arbitrary limit, then you know that the contractor is mentally unsound.
But please, do try to excuse away the patch size again. It does nothing but make you look foolish.

Using a slighly more/less efficient compression algorythm here and there. A block of /*commented*/ code that is ignored by the patcher. Done.
The patch probably ended up close 514mb anyways and someone decided to spend ess than 5minutes to make a meta joke before sending it to sony QA. Big deal...

Even something so minor is still sacrificing general efficiency for the sake of 514. And looking at the game as it is, do you honestly believe it was something so minor? That they had enough time left, with ALL these bugs, to just sit back and go 'I'm going to slightly decompress these sound clips to make this 512 meg update 514.'? If that is actually what happened... I give up all hope on CCP Shanghai.

Of "ALL these bugs" most seem to be wrong modules and/or attributes which AFAIK are pure database errors and not that many(yet), considering that probably several thousand entries have been modified. A certain error rate is to be expected.
The only way preventing that particular kind of bug is a public test server and you can thank sony for not letting this happen.
ps. fixing all those would not change the patch size in any significant way.

I personally applaud our Icelandic overlords! I grew up on a mix of Batman and other saturday morning cartoons and what this world sorely lacks is villains who take the time to theme out anything. Not saying CCP is the villain, I love you guys! You guys keep doing what you do and if my PS3 hasn't updated and autodownloaded the patch already I will set up a candle light dinner for when I do update.
Don't worry, I got the message. I love you too.

Many of the problems are things not being changed. The Laser Rifle, for example, or the Amarr Commando bonuses. This means that they did not bother to change those numbers. Either to keep the patch at 514, purely laziness, or because they were to busy making the patch 514, who can say? In any event, they are to blame, and we shouldn't just sit back and accept the shoddy work as 'just something that happens.'
Also, CCP has an internal testing regimen, or at the very least they SHOULD. They have the machines capable of running DUST (as shown at fanfest when they run machines with the newest builds) and any good company tests its products before they come out. If they don't have a PLAYER testing environment, that's all well and good as most games don't. If they don't have a DEVELOPER/QA testing environment, that's a nail in the coffin.
p.s. fixing all these will definitely cause another, not-514-sized patch/hotfix
