To get the maximum out of one of these little beauties one has to have one's finger on the trigger until the dial hits, well, eleven.
So two questions spring to mind:
1. Is there any downside to sitting there for minutes on end whilst the charge is full? Other than the dog in the house going ballistic can anyone in-game hear the whining or is there a risk of the rifle exploding or whatever?
2. Okay, the rifle is fully charged. The target has beetled off or died. I'm sitting there with a fully charged weapon all ready to go (cue a Kenneth Williams' "Ooh, err!") how does one, er, discharge the thing without spending a round?

1. Charge can be hold indefinitely . Someone who are near you will hear the charging sound.
2. swap to sidearm, or sprint to cancel charging without firing

Thanks ever so much. So I suppose that the charging sound will negate any stealth suit/modules that I have going.
Also thanks for the tip about sidearms and sprinting. Not sure if I can hold my fingers down on the fire button and change weapon at the same time without blowing my own foot off. But I will be sure to give it a try.
So, tonight folks, if you hear a keen whistling from the rooftops following by an explosion and a lot of cursing then send over a Nanite patch please.

NOTE: The same "trick" works for grenades that are being cooked. Simply switching weapons will cancel the cooking nade.
While it does work, I do not suggest using melee -- it reduces your stamina. |

Sprinting also works to cancel charging and grenade cooking...little bit faster than melee or swap, as you only have to sprint about 1mm. |
