There are probably a bunch of threads on this subject but Cloaking fascinates me.
Is this a skill limited to scouts or is it available to all classes/races? Is there the potential for entire squads/teams to turn up cloaked? Does the device have a Predator style tell? Can I catch a glimpse of a cloaked merc if I keep my eyes open?
I've saved up 1m SP. Should I be spending it on this??

1.) Any suit can use it, spare for the basic heavy and sentinel. I'll be using it on the Commando for the laughs. 2.) Yes, actually, and that's potentially problematic. 3.) Yes, they'll be a little... glittery?... when they move.

al nize mk2 wrote:Is this a skill limited to scouts or is it available to all classes/races? It fits in an Equipment slot, but it's defined as "not equipment" so Logis don't apply their fitting bonus (I've read the term "Utility" in a dev post somewhere). Any suit can fit them, but they cost a HUGE amount - Scouts get a 75% reduction in fitting costs, which is huge.
Quote:Is there the potential for entire squads/teams to turn up cloaked? Potential? Yes. I doubt it will be a practical approach to combat, though.
Quote:Does the device have a Predator style tell? Can I catch a glimpse of a cloaked merc if I keep my eyes open? This is a link to an image used in this dev blog. As you can see, the invisible suit isn't entirely invisible. Devs have mentioned a "shimmer" effect when cloaked suits are moving. |

Clarification: Scout Operation is -15% to cloak fitting cost per level. It's only -75% at level 5. Convenient for something you take to proto immediately due to the dropsuit command refund, but don't expect it to be easy to fit if you're slowly grinding out SP to invest into the role.

I should have said "up to" 75% there. My mistake. |

Probably gonna be using my logi and commando suit with a cloak, but not on every fitting, just on certain ones that are designed for more sneaky/flanking fits.
As a commando you can't dampen yourself like on other suits (it's what I do to be competitive with my logi), but the cloaking will help as a flanking aid instead of a scanner. Using a minmatar one also helps as you are much faster and can get around easier.
My logi suit will benefit from the cloak because I can use it to run away, or to compliment my hacking suit. Basically hack, remote, cloak, run and hide
I'm not really that excited for it as it really is made for scouts, but I will always try out new things and all sorts of playstyles. The commando one might not work as well as the hacking fit, but we'll see.

I'm looking forward to cloaking very much. Rocking Minscout on covert and Gal/Cal scout on my main. I'm staying proto Gallogi too because their services are going to be much appreciated come 1.8.
I think a lot of people will spec into it and scouts thinking it's an iWin button but I think reality will sink in and people will see it's just an augmentation and should be used as such and not as the centerpiece of your game plan/approach.
Ever since I saw CCP Remnant talk about eWar in DUST 514 @ FF last year I knew that my main was destined to become an eWar sepecialist and this update marks the start of that career.

I can see the minja using the cloak since Minmatar scouts are blind as bats without the passive range bonus that Gallente scouts have.

The reason why it's probably not listed as a equipment slot for logis (logis would be OP if their bonus applied, I'm just saying why it isn't equipment) is because it's attached to the cortex, the interface brought up by hacking and detonating remotes. It's not a single piece of equipment, but more of a add on to the suit. It probably make more sense to define it as related to a codebreaker module, which increases hacking speed, which is done with the cortex. |
