Besides speccing back into Gallente assault after the respec Im thinking of getting another races suits for some flexibility. Gallente are really short range and I sometimes feel the need for some extra range. Would you pick Amarr or Caldari for a longish range?
Another option would be to spec further into Gallente and try out the Commando suit.

Could you please elaborate as to why? I have never tried Amarr suits or guns past the MLT variants except for ScR wich did irritate me a bit with overheat. But Amarrian suitbonuses seems fitting:) |

Of the assaults suits...
...don't go Caldari . The racial bonus is bad and shield tanking is lacking a bit, and... well, things may improve with 1.8, but I wouldn't bet on it. The suit is effectively being nerfed in my opinion, as it is losing two rather nice shield based bonuses in exchange for a lackluster reload bonus and a decent weapon/sidearm fittings bonus. Hold off on this one.
The Amarr suit would compliment whatever you have in armour skills, and the bonus is great (once you get to at least lvl 3). However, the bonus only works well with the standard-variation of the Scrambler rifle and the Laser Rifle, and those weapons are not exactly for everyone. They are very aim-intensive, so be real with yourself: Is your aim good? If not, the Amarr may not be the assault suit for you.
Personally, I'd go for a different role, like the Gallente Commando you mentioned. The commando has some fun builds, like the AR/Shotgun combo, and the plasma cannon can be a fun weapon on rare occasions on the commando as well. It would also open some doors. You get a basic heavy with it(with an easy path to Sentinel), which may be of use in certain maps, and would be great as a platform for the eventual Gallente heavy weapon (plasma mortar, if rumors are to be trusted).
Anyway, just a little reminder that regardless of what you choose to do, there is no need to go all in (such as getting Gallente Commando lvl 3 in one SP spending session). |

Yeah, my aim. That is something that I should take in consideration. But atleast I can say that it is getting better, but ScR might be pushing my luck. And that Gallente Commando looks really brutal, and ties in nicely with my assault approach. AR and Plasma sounds sexy.
Thanks for your input:)

Amar assault is easily one of the best suits in the game at prototype its a beast plus that bonus to heat reduction does help even if u can't aim that well gives you some leway thats just my opinion also the assault scr at prototype is nasty melts people although it does chew thru ammo

The answer is always Amarr.
But, in this case the Amarr assault is only good if you use the LR or ScR, otherwise no point. Caldari assault, there appears to be no point regardless of the weapon you use (I have a BPO and am likely to skill out of it come 1.8, if that tells you anything.... and it should.)
So, anyway, if you don't use one of our glorious laz0r weapons, go with a Commando suit.

The thing is, Im not sure about that Commando suit because of the movement speed. My assault suit today is kinda slow with 2 enhanced plates and a rep. And for me speed is important when you are "assaulting". Will have to try it out on an alt before I make up my mind.
Had another go with the ScR on another yesterday and it is actually growing on me, have to try out the various advanced ScR's and see what they are like. Thanks for all the input so far, keep it coming:) |

If you intend on using laser weaponry (laser rifle and scrambler rifle), I would STRONGLY recommend using Amarr assault. The Amarr assault allows laser weaponry to keep firing for significantly longer before overheating, and thus allows you to deal more damage. Alternatively you could go Amarr commando to fit 2 light weapons at once, and it gets a damage bonus to laser weaponry.
If you intend on using rail weapons (magsec SMG, bolt pistol, sniper rifle, or rail rifle) you might want to consider going Cadari assault because it gives a reload bonus to rail tech; not that great a bonus, so you would be fine without it, but might help. Alternatively you could go Caldari commando for light rail weaponry (sniper rifle, rail rifle) for the damage bonus.
The Amarr assault Primarily armor-based
Slightly more base HP
Great stamina
Slowest assault
Great PG/CPU
Least amount of module slots
Good racial bonus (laser weapon heat buildup reduction)
The Caldari assault Primarily shield-based
Decent base HP
Decent stamina
Decent speed
Decent PG/CPU
Good amount of module slots
Arguably bad racial bonus (rail weapon reload)
I personally chose Amarr assault, but I use laser weaponry, and I love the way it looks.
Consider Minmatar assault if you use projectiles (combat rifle, SMG). Or Minmatar commando, which also gets a bonus to explosives (mass driver, swarm launcher) in addition to the projectiles.
I would recommend Gallente assault if you use blaster/plasma weapons (assault rifle, shotgun, plasma cannon, ion pistol), but the bonus (dispersion and kick reduction) seems pretty crappy. Gallente commando would be a better choice for the damage bonus for light blaster/plasma weapons (AR, shotgun, plasma cannons).

Caldari Commando with a Rail Rifle.
Tons of natural Health without having to max shields and armor to get similar results out of the assault suits.
10% damage bonus full speced into, Reload bonus the Assault enjoys. and an extra light weapon slot to do with as you please.
You still get an equipment slot.
The increased speed isn't a huge deal when your setting up shop with a Rail rifle.
It's potentially the best sniper suit in the game.
