I've been think about what to run in 1.8 and playing with all the guns again this week. I'm really enjoying the scrambler rifle on a logi suit, but it does have some big disadvantages
1) The overheat is a pain 2) -20% dmg on armour which most people stack.
These two drawbacks combine really painfully if I come up against a stacked armour target with high EHP, I do a lot less damage, and therefore need more shots, which sends the gun toward overheat.
In 1.8 each shot will do less damage due to a nerf to the gun itself of around 10%, and less damage again due to a nerf to damage mods of anywhere between 5% and 2% per mod depending on tech level.
However the heat build up will stay the same, and it looks fairly likely armour stacking will remain the meta of choice.
What do you think that will mean for the scrambler rifle? It could find itself in a situation where it just doesn't put out enough DPS before overheating to down a lot of targets, unless your running it with a bonus to heat reduction amarr assualt suit.
Is anyone else thinking of using it or leaving it behind in 1.8?
In comparison the combat rifle is much easier to fit and has a much nicer damage profile (-5% shield/+10 armour) without the issues of overheating, even with the extra 5% nerf in 1.8 it looks on paper a more compelling choice. |

No need for worries Mr. Hun. Combos like Scrambler Rifles/Magsec SMG are going to save us from all the Caldari Sentinel scrubs people keep complaining about.

I think it has 15 rounds before overheat without the bonus it doesn't honestly need that many to do well.
Losing the prof bonus and dmg mods is going to hurt the weapon. It needed to be balanced, but it might go slightly further and make it a bad weapon.

The assault version works well with the logi suit, also if you are running the amarr you can have an SMG as back up. Them suckers tear through armour like nothing.
As fun as the charged SCR is, try using it with the assault suit you get way more bang for your buck.

I love the ScR. But I use it on non Amarr assault suits and currently it causes me to die often, or miss a kill, due to overheat.
This problem will be more frequent in 1.8 since the weapon is losing damage and most people will dual tank which means more hp to chew through.
Because of this, I believe the ScR well become less used on any suit except the amarr assault or Amarr commando. I know I probably won't use it as much since I will be going Cal Scout.

The answer is to use a CR, which performs basically like an SCR without the overheat.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

I have been saying this for weeks now.
ScR will, I think, only be viable on an Amarr Assault, or maybe a commando. Scouts might get some use from the charged shot, but otherwise I don't expect to see many ScR on the battlefield in 1.8. Other than mine, that is.

Are you planning on using ScR in 1.8?

I plan to stay Amarr assault/SCR. I have been since day 1 of its introduction; I see no need to change now.

I love the scram rifle but i will not use a weapon that is obviously sub-par and/or bad I'm definitely skilling back into the Amarr assault. I just got into it yesterday and I'm loving it. I've had the scrambler on my alt for as long as I can remember.
I'm also going to try the laser rifle in 1.8 on the Amarr assault since I already have standard laser rifles unlocked. (I unlocked and used them on day one that they were released on my main and I gave them another go on my alt a few months back).

the scrambler rifle will be a monster in the hands of an amarr assault, and only a normal gun in the hands of all other suits. that's the idea. |

I'm going to give the LR another go with the update. I mean, they're actually pretty decent right now in the right environment, but they're outshot and overpowered by the Rail, outmaneuvered by the Combat, lack the punch of the Scrambler, and yatta, yatta. Anyway, we'll see how it plays out I guess.
