This (start at 1:17:00) makes it seem like the game devolved, but this was all on the carbon engine on the PC right? Anyways it just reminds me of what this game can be, and puts the current version of the game to shame.

I would've bought a gaming PC just for Dust 514 if they put it on the PC only.

Change your signature, 1.8 didn't nail it. Fanfest is all they got left to show the good stuff if they have any.

After seeing what Chris Roberts is doing with SC on Cryengine on the PC I'm now planning my build. That has made clear the huge divide between the ancient PS3 and the state of the art gaming PCs. CCP is going after the more casual console player though, and it could very well be a winning business strategy (assuming they get their act together). They don't have to cater to the hard core, merely satisfy a portion of the much larger casual community. Their dumbing down of vehicles and ignoring a perfect opportunity to switch to vehicle capacitors is a clear indicator of direction, and that more so than balance issues makes me think that they are no longer shooting for the deep strategic shooter I was sold on in closed beta. I've got far too much time invested in DUST to just walk away and that Skinner Box will keep me pulling the lever, but I just don't care deeply about it anymore.
So I guess there will never be a pilot suit then?

Thnx for digging up this thread lol, anyways what CCP was showing was a PC version of the game. They were using a different engine called the Carbon Engine. Right now on the PS3 CCP is very limited with what they can do. That's why they aren't using the carbon engine on the PS3, we are using the Unreal Engine or one of the Unreal Engines

Pretty much, I just can't believe that CCP figured out that the Carbon Engine wasn't going to be able to run on the PS3 after they did so much work on that version. It looked so much more complete, And they had to start over with the Unreal Engine such a shame. It's gotten to the point where there is competition on consoles and Dust wouldn't stand a chance if they were released tomorrow.

"Incarna" LOL joke.
Dust - ended up being nothing like the original vision. I think personally because they did the wrong thing and went for consoles only.
As per usual, CCP has great ideas but sometimes they really make the wrong choices on seeing those things through. I mean for example, EVE still has no proper incarna.
DUST still does not yet have the basic features even mentioned in this from 2009 (Trophy room, corp hangout areas etc..)
So many things yet to come but I dunno. They better be more realistic at this years fanfest. Or at least draw a line between "working on / developing" and "ideas, crazy wild dreams"
Agreed it wasn't cool how they hyped Dust 514 up so much last fanfest and gave very little after uprisings release. But even then it seems like CCP would've disappointed us anyways, just look at how very little we've gotten since Uprisings release. Even if they spent less on the trailers and more on the games development I still think we wouldn't have very much more than we've got in now (including the stuff in 1.8)
