Alright, now, ever since I started playing this game I wanted a cloaked scout that has vision of the map. Now I have a question. Say I spec into this, how good can i get the electronics of the suit? Meaning, the range of my scanning, my dampening and my profile enhancing. Will I be able to scan 50M+ away from my suit and have vision of basically everything? I never liked active scanners, i love passing scanning but have never done it. Is it really effective or is it some shoddy form of scanning? If it's good, can I passively scan and see everyone when cloaked? If so, I see really no point running anything else. If I can see everyone in the vicinity to me, cloak as well, I will be great with practice. |

It depends on what you are planning to give up fitting wise. You only have 2 low slots to work with so if you run 2 complex range amplifiers you can get out to 70m but then you will not be dampened and also not have an armor rep.
Also, check this if you want to see who can scan who/etc. Scanning Table 1.8 |

+Don't run armor reps, never have, so no problem. -Probably want 1 profile dampener then, does that mean around 40-50 meters?
50 meters is still a pretty damn big space, I don't usually run out in open spaces and if I do, I can be cloaked.
I plan on focusing solely on cloaking and passive scanning/dampening. I see little point in adding much more eHP onto a scout. I will play with an assault with 900 eHP and die pretty instantly if caught off gaurd so eHp doesnt matter to me. What matters is seeing the enemy before they see me. THat's basi |

You will see everyone that's not a Gallente Scout of the same tier (assuming no one uses mods).
I think you won't be able to see vehicles either since they have more dampners than a scout lol unless CCP fixes passive scanning.
It also depends on how you fit your suit. If you just use range amps and precision mods, you'll be able to scan everyone (again if the Gallente Scout isn't wearing the same amount of mods of the same tier.
There is more math to this, but I forgot. Sowwy. |

Thanks. I will run at least 1 precision enhancer on it as well, just to be doubly sure i can scan almost everything. I don't see a lot of people running max dampening though, and if they did, i wouldnt mind dieing to them, its what they focused on |

Actually, no, it isn't; passive scanning is broken, not the vehicle profiles. AS's pick them up quite easily, even the STD ones pick them up.

If you're not that worried about catching scouts, gallante may be a better choice. You can get more range with gallante and still pick up everyone but scouts (who you aren't guaranteed to get with caldari anyway) and stay off other folks radar easier.
That being said I'm heavily torn between the two myself...
But caldari range maxes out at 78, gallante can get 95 or 100+(not worth it) |

It's already been said, but passive scanning is great. Come 1.8, it will be even better. I run a Minmatar with two complex range extenders and get about 40 or so meters on it where I can see just about everything short of fully upgraded scout suits. The only problem with it at the moment is that it's very limited to the map you're on. There are currently only about two, maybe three maps where passive scanning is decent, while the others are just so open that it's not worth using the slots. I can definitely recommend it though as once the patch comes out, a single complex range amplifier will net you around 43 meters on the scanning radius. It's just so much fun to always know where people are at, lets you actually plan your assault instead of just hoping there isn't a group of enemies around the next corner.
Nova Knives are OP! Nerf em before you lose all your proto suits!
