I've been thinking about this before proposed 1.8 changes and I don't think the 1.8 changes have changed my mind.
Remove the lvl 5 req for weapon proficiency. Either remove the req altogether or make it a lvl 1 req only.

After one learns how to operate something they then learn how to be proficient at doing so afterwards they start to master said techniques of operation.

What are your reasons for this suggestion? Especially since 1.8 hasn't dropped yet for us to gauge how the weapons' damage will be after tuesday.

If you ask for something you should give some reasoning... otherwise it's just spam!

Why should you be able to increase the damage output of a standard weapon to the same as or more than the proto variant without skilling up to the proto variant?

Are you arguing for or against the proposal? hard to tell?
Consider a camera phone, i might be very proficient at taking photo's with my camera phone, give me a DSLR or a MedIum format camera - I don't know how to operate these.. SO i then need to learn how to operate them.
You can become proficient with a basic/consumer item before learning how to operate a more complicated/professional version. |

A bigger deal for me is that optimization shouldn't require proficiency 5

It's where it is, but pretty expansive for how it will work after 1.8
It should be dropped to 3x

What... why? It's fine the way it is, in my opinion. If it were up to me, I'd switch the quick reload to unlock at level 3, not 2, but whatever. Also, the fitting optimizing for weapons to be unlocked at prof 3, not 4 or 5.
I'd also give the knives a fitting optimizing like every other weapon, but this is all just me. |

Just skilling straight up to the proto variant would use less total SP, but being able to skill up proficiency without op lvl 5 requirement would help newer players with less SP - for 31,000 sp they get an extra 2% on their Militia/Std/ADV weapon.
Then again, why do i bother giving a ****? |

It's nothing to do with weapons dmg in 1.8, or in any other build. |

I didn't ask for anything, i stated an opinion. It's not spam either, spam is an entirely different type of meat (but seriously, this is not the definition of spam)

Seriously speaking it is an interesting thought. If CCP wasn't nerfing the Proficiency skills I'd be all over it. With longer Time-To-Kill the Proficiency skills are about to become more valuable. Lowering the bar to 3 or 4 isn't unreasonable. Although the Operation Skill at 5 should be kept for prototype weapons, IMO.
+1 to the O.P. for an interesting post.
Here, have some candy and a Like. :-)

Okay then why do you need to go to proficiency level 5 just to use the core flaylock pistol I do think that needs to be changed.
