W/L ratio, and maybe more importantly WP/D ratios are much more relevant.
Anyone can jump in a squad and sit on a rooftop for a few games.

They give you 50 points for a kill and 0 for dying. You can win any game mode by depleting the other teams clones, so killing > dying.

The people that play this game have a fascination with KDR, and I mean both types of people.
One group says that KDR is really important because it is used to judge the effectiveness of someone on the field. They make lots of posts about "stop saying KDR is pointless."
Another group says KDR isn't important because how many people you kill doesn't matter if you are doing other things to help your teammates like hack objectives or play logistical support. They make lots of posts about "stop saying KDR is important." |

its an adversarial game, its a first person shooter, not a first person medic/support guy game, in every game mode you can win by out killing the enemy, theres no explanation for why having a high kdr is bad but there are plenty for why having a low one is. there are some of my thoughts on the issue

What would you sue to determine usefulness?
WP/D? That would just mean logi's are always number 1 on the leaderboard. Say what you will about logi's being useful, but they are without a doubt the most easymode warpoint farmers that exist.
ISK Lost/ISK Destroyed? So anyone that uses BPOs get's an infinity stat because they lose 0 ISK, even if they suck so hard that they die 150 times in one game.
Of course K/DR isn't perfect, but it doesn't have half the problems any other form of stat has.
EDIT: Looked up at another person's post and saw W/L ratio. So anybody that plays pub matches gets penalized for losing a game when he gets stuck with a bunch of scrubs? Hardly an indicator of skill.

It's just a way of measuring how many people you can kill before you die. Some people would consider that as important as any other stat.

Erm Camping would be a reason, proto stomping not, those guys earnt the ability so they should use it but there are some nasty tricks out there, Anyhow been in plenty of matchs where the killers dont win because .......its an endless argument . We should respect that we all play the game to what we require ... though the main point is to capture and protect the objective... |

K/D is important but only for self evaluation. Watching it rise as you evolve in the game means you are getting better and learning.
Padding K/D for the sole purpose of making it rise is not a true indicator of skill. Those who choose to pad lose a valuable tool. It is like lying to yourself. Eventually you will believe your k/d is actually skill. That gain from 1.5 to 7.0 you have from stomping or redline thales isn't **** compared to my solo infantry's 1.2 to 1.4 that hacks objectives and pushes.

For a straight up infantry player, kdr shows how good they are at killing. That's why I think it is important

Ansiiis The Trustworthy wrote:It is the only thing to judge one's value on the field. Yeah... no. Redline snipers are next to useless, and they usually have higher K/DRs than most actually useful players.
W/L would be the best way to judge their value if FW wasn't broken.
WP/D could also work if there wasn't a way to farm that too.
Truth is, the only way to really judge their usefulness is to actually play with them and see how they perform first hand, because every trackable stat is also a farmable stat.

People can value whatever stat they want to. KDR, W/L, WP, Isk Ratios, who cares?
I value my KDR to some extent because I'm a goddamn heavy. All I ******* do is feed my meat grinder and blow **** up with a Forge Gun. To me, getting more kills than deaths is a good way to measure how successful I am as a heavy.
However, I often do have fun with little disregard to my KDR by running a Heavy Melee fit. Punching people to death is great fun and I look forward to finally deploying my Melee Minmatar Sentinel next week.

a positive kdr in my role means i was doing too much pew pew not enough hacky hack.
the importance of your kdr is purly dependant on your role in the game.

W/L only means anything on the corp level and that only applies to PC exclusive corps (meaning the members only play PC).
WP/D at most means as much as KDR because anyone can spam uplinks and otherwise exploit WP gain for a few games.
