I think this can summarize the different play styles of the two basic tanking strategies.
With armor tanking, things are pretty straightforward, You come DRIVING in with BIG, THUMPING, AGGRESSIVE, STEADY full frontal, in-your-face attacks. It's not super complicated. Your logi armor reps, or on board locals, provide a nice, reliable, base line to your pace. You trade off between the boring attacks beats during your concentrated-4 measures of kinetic-verses but then you predictably retreat away into your chorus line to recieve some armor reps while your logi-repper plays a nanite solo on your fractured dropsuit. Armor tanking are for the screamers, the long-haired head-bangers, the guys who are cool with playing the bass, and letting the main-slayer get the spotlight.
Shield tanking isn't weaker. It is more sophisticated. Let's be honest...it has more style. It has the freedom to change its time signature, catching its target off-guard with changes in speed and rythm. It isn't about delivering its melody all at once, but instead, breaking you down and forcing you to follow its beat. In a shield tanking squad, different members can more easily swap between playing melody or harmony trading places between being the primary meat shield and secondary support gunner while the other quickly takes a breath. Shield tanking takes more gut and improvisation to play. |

I like the comparison as long as we're talking old school jazz. My first thought was smooth jazz and it felt so wrong.

Not quite old school though.

And that's why I use both. I'm in your face but I make you play by MY rules. At the same time sticking to the shadows.

To add to the comparison, normal people hate jazz and think the people who actually prefer it over rock are either loners or incomprehensible weirdos.

The rock crowd are the "followers" and the "trendy" people who are cool with joining big faceless smergish corporate organizations and lose all individuality.

Nice, but in reality a CR or RR or even occasional scrambler rifle guns you down so fast that it matters little. Granted you can be tactical and mitigate certain elements but yea.... so many things are broken in this game!

What about speed and stealth tankers? They're way more musically rich than boring-a$$, iTunes store recommended, shield and armor tankers.
Speed and stealth tankers are like Del the Automator and John Cage performing separate yet polyrhythmic solos on an Electribe and a whale baleen that's been converted into a harpsichord, respectively.
My other dropsuit is a Python.

Love the comparison with jazz there.
