Hi there, can anyone tell me the current size of Dust on their ps3 drive? I am looking to buy a 12gb one just for dust but I need to make sure that it will be enough. Thanks :) |

STAHP. Seriously. Don't do that. It's not worth the small amount of money you save. The 12GB PS3's are meant to be ****** blu-ray/netflix appliances.

This doesn't make sense. What are you buying??
An SSD?? if so it makes sense.
But I would get a hybrid drive. has a 6gb SSD and also a 500 or 1tb HDD. its the best of both worlds.
I am getting quicker load times and am now one of the first if not the first into most games
Also is alot cheaper than a SSD |

Thanks :) It's enough space I have that one and have other games in the 12gb. If you want to add a hard drive you're going to have to buy a bracket from Amazon.

I used the 12gb for quite a while before I grabbed an SSD. You should be good with dust in it's current state but future updates could change that.
It's only a 2-3gb dl but a larger install size.
Edit: Sniped :( |

I think if you installed it with the 1.7 Client which is currently in the PSN it's 2,7GB installed. But you should really go at least for a 50gb PS3.

Thanks :) note that the low sized SSDs have low read and write times for an SSD. it is barely faster than a regular harddrive and beside that the not optimized OS for SSDs will tear it out sooner or later.
also note that a regular SSD isnt worth it. the PS3 uses a SATA I port which is not even close enough to saturate the bandwith of a SSD. get a hybrid drive, it will reach the same speed as the SSD on a ps3 and will cost alot less $ per MB. |

My ps3 shows the dust install using up 2500mb
Something to keep in mind is that with the way PS3 installs work right now, unless the game is designed with a fancy downloader (like GTA5 and TLoU) where you download a ~10mb application that downloads the rest of the game, you actually need more than twice as much free space as the store page lists to install a game. First you need to download the entire install package, and then you need the free space left over to install the game without overwriting the installer in the process.
That's going to be a problem with the dinky little 12gb flash drive built into the cheap-ass edition PS3. If dust ever approaches 6gb, which is entirely possible, you can find yourself in the bizarre situation of being able to download the client but not having the free space to unpack and install it.
I strongly recommend getting a PS3 with any hard drive - just look for a used one if the cost is a concern. I got mine used years ago, it's one of the second-gen "fat" PS3s and its still kicking after dozens of hard freezes from dust that everyone is so convinced will kill a PS3 |
