People keep posting comments and videos of it sucking, but whenever I get shot, it takes 2 shots to kill me (with a standard shotgun). Granted I use an approx. 330 EHP scout suit, but that thing is pretty deadly. It's never failed to at least mortally wound me. Even when I use it, it 1 hit KOs 90% of standard/militia suits. I do use 1 compelx damage mod, but I won't use it next update due to shield extenders being very noticeably better in every way with the shotgun.

I use the militia one and I manage well with it, but one thing that I hate is when the enemy has low health and is moving it takes 3 shots to take him down even though the shot was clearly on him.

You just explained why in your post. It's only works exceptionally well against suits that aren't very tanked out. And now even more so that brick-tanking is making a comeback 1.8, which again you touched up on, with the loss of damage from the dmod nerf.

Why the QQ?
Some people want OHKs with it, but I think many simply want kills to come easier -- moreso at the top level against proto or heavy suits.
I'm not sure I agree, personally, with that perspective. But then again, I also run proto quite a bit, so I'm not completely objective either. |

Point blank shots need to be a OHKO, especially with a head-shot. I NEED a complex damage mod to get OHKO's, and the Gallente Frames can still survive a head-shot at point blank range...

I'm not sure I agree. Just because you're close shouldn't make it an "I win" button against medium suits, but the buffing to heavies and the re-inforcement of dual tanking in medium suits along with a ROF decrease do suggest it will be even harder to kill with a shotgun in 1.8.
Let's not forget the superior passive scanning ability, the active scanner nerf, and now the cloak when considering the shotgun and its one shot one kill potential.
So, in summary, I'm not so sure that's having one shot one kill potential is what's right for the game -- particularly considering the considerable advantages the scout already has and will have in 1.8 -- but I suspect those who wield the weapon regularly (like you) will in many cases disagree.
Who's right? Heck if I know, but I do know it will be fun to see the new roles and interactions play themselves out on the battlefield, and I look forward to the challenge of keeping you sneaky bastards far enough away and in my crosshairs. :)
Respectfully...Leadfoot |

I just wish I actually ran into a 'real' shotgun as often as the rest of you. I only ever get 2-shotted by the Militia bargain-bin model. I feel so strongly towards nerfing that particularly gun now, just because of how well it performs in comparison to the Standard. I'm fine with getting 2-shotted by a weapon that actually cost more than a three-year-old's allowance.

Salutations, Tectonic! I am a Shotgun enthusiast, because I run as an "Artificer" (Support Player) in this game, commit ALL my SP to my vehicle and its bonuses, invested practiaclly ZERO SP to a descent dropsuit and suit modules, so I know if my crew is slaughtered deep in Red territory and I'm all alone... my ONLY hope is to hunker timidly behind a sink in the Caldari restroom, with 2 grenades and a... You Guessed it: PUMP GUN.
The success you'll get with a shotgun doesn't come from the HP shown in the stats ( so many players tried that Advanced Breach Shotgun with the MONSTER hp, only to realize that its 2-round clip makes it suicidal to use). Success comes from increasing the training SP levels on shotgun operation, etc.
Those of us who applied our SP to the shotgun skill tree get our shot-spread become tighter and more concentrated and our aiming circle become smaller (hence it punches the chest and skull harder at close range---inflicts more damage on medium range victims--both without having to use a damage mod).
I've unlocked a prototype shotgun for my protection, but I've only tried out my shotgun SP-bonus abilities with a standard or CRG shotgun in my hands. The result is astounding, and in desperate face-v-face with a lone heavy, I've often shocked the heck out of him by literally "pump-bucking" him back out the doorway and onto the floor in 6 rapid rounds. .....
Just another cool example of how Dust allows you to make a militia gun with no damage mods become ENORMOUSLY more lethal, because the owner of the gun PIMPED HER SELF up with bonuses.
With the shotgun, that principle really seems to hold true. |

In answer to post #1 shotguns are a plasma weapon so you want more shield tankers on the field. Duel bricked could be an issue on the armor side since plates give more Hit-Points and SGs are -10% + Dmg Mods against that. The Amar and Gallente Sentinels could be a nightmare to fight.
Aside put my name on the list that basically likes the current Time-To-Kill but concerned for the changes.
Here, have some candy and a Like. :-)

Its because regardless of what people tell you, i The shotgun os a good gun, it just takes skill, which the whiners don't have. They just want a win button.

Can I get some tip Fusion? LOL okay...I usually just derp around objects and strafe rapidly until they get angry and come at me. Make sure your precision and scan radius is pretty high up there (preferably level 3 for scan radius, and 4-5 for precision) since unless you're in a proto suit, you're pretty vulnerable with no armor plates or complex shield extenders.

The problem is when you need more than two shots.
Suddenly the disadvantages become extremely obvious. |
