They always seem to go off for me, I put as many as I can I one little group.
5 proto 4 adv 3 basic. Tanks dont have a chance

 750 * 12 * 1.12 = 10,080 damage

What i find at times is that LAVs go over them sooooo fast that they dont trigger them.

^this, and if they do go off you usually can 'outrun' the blast. The more
annoyingeffective minefield placements are where the terrain force vehicles to slow down. e.g. towards the top of inclines, bumpy roads, corners and so on.

 Placement is also a factor.

If you try to hide the proxies on the lip of a ramp the vehicles going down the ramp sometimes jump over them and don't set them off

In FW you can get around the vehicle speed by having your proxies set off a chain to catch them
you can do it with RE's too but they're lighter in colour and so easier for vehicle drivers to see.

so if a LAV drives over them whe rethere not placed in a chain and too fast they don't go off? i watched several LAVs drive through mine, there was no lip for them to catch air on. i watched on the map they would just go right over the proxies and RE pile and nothing would happen. a couple weeks ago it was working fine for me i got a kill like this, now they just don't explode and lavs are diving right over the top of them.

yea i was putting mine around a corner but i guess i will have to place them better. ok so it's the speed of a lav that's not setting them off. i think i'm set straight now. thanks everyone

does this same problem happen with tanks?

As a vehicle user, I would say they are bugged, I've noticed several times (even when moving slowly) I hear the beeping noise and nothing happens, no blast & no damage... I even once flew my dropship under a small pipe and set the beepers going, but no explosion, came back and shot them all out for a few points... Perhaps this should be reported in the bug section? if it hasn't already.

A combination of lag and vehicle speed perhaps?

One of the most spectacular things I've seen in Dust is when proxies blew my fuel-injected LAV into the air. So it's certainly not vehicle speed on its own.
