So there's been talk of this and that and so on about infantry only, tank only, and other match types, so why not have some broad encompasing matchmaking options.
In the matchmaker tab we'd still have 'public contracts' 'faction' 'corporation' and 'event' then 'escalation' would be the new category. The options would be ~ 'militia' ~ 'standard' ~ 'advanced' ~ 'prototype' ~ 'Vehicles'
In militia matches, only militia dropsuits may be used. Standard matches would only have standard suits, and so on up to prototype dropsuits. No limitaitons would be placed on modules or weapons. Vehicles would only be limited to LAVs in these matches, until you get up to the 'Vehicles" type match where HAVs and Dropships become available.
Payouts would go up as the type of dropsuit available go up as well. |

[...]why not have some broad encompasing matchmaking options.[...] Because, in New Eden, you are not supposed to pick and choose who you'd like to fight against. This whole concept is pretty much imcompatible with the persistent MMO Dust strives to be(come).
Matchmaking needs some tweaks and we need PVE in around two years ago, no doubt. But seperating matches like you propose will only lead to several sub-communities that barely interact with each other if they can help it.

Agreed.
In New Eden you dont get to arbitrarily look at some magical interface that says "corporation X promised corporation Y not to **** their **** up with proto type equipment...."
Thats not what war in New Eden is about.

Its not based on what you want to go up against, but more like.. what the public contract people are willing to hire. NPC corps might not always be willing to pay for mercs in proto gear, or maybe they're not able to. So the 'match type' is what the public contract NPC corp is based on what the NPC corp is willing or able to pay for. |
