In 1.8 we are seeing some minor nerfs to equipment for balancing purposes. On the surface, that's what this looked like to me, but then I got to thinking about why.
Well the first thing that came to mind was the fact that TTK is going to be increased, so technically all of the repair tools would actually recieve a slight buff in combat for repairing someone as they're taking damage.
However, the nerf to the core focused seems kind of steep for those not using a minmatar logistics. Here's some math for those of you that are into that kind of thing:
Old stat: 175 New stat: 125 New stat with minmatar bonus: 156.25
175-125 = 50 50/175 = 28.6%, or in other words, a 28.6% reduction i.e. nerf
175-156.25 = 18.75 18.75/175 = 10.7% nerf
So what does this tell us? Well basically this means that using the core focused on anything but a minmatar logistics will be a horrible idea. The other repair tools will still be the same, and with the minmatar bonus the core focused will work very similarly to how it does now.
On top of all this, the range being reduced to 7.5 makes it even harder to use for other races.
a 30% nerf seems like way too much if it was just a balancing thing, and if it was a balancing thing then why does the minamatr logi bonus increase it to a similar level of nerf that the weapons are getting? That's like saying you're nerfing the RR, but the caldari assault will get a bonus to the weapon equal to the nerf therefore balancing it out... __________________________________________________
But enough about the core focused, what about the ranges?
I mean...I understand uplinks having a longer spawn time, and the nerf to equipment health because of the equipment spam that we see all the time. And even the scanner changes make sense in a balancing perspective.
The repair tool nerf to range confuses me. I mean, do you have a problem with it? Has ANYONE had a problem with it? How is it a balancing thing? Was it because all the other equipment was getting a minor nerf and CCP thought it was best to also randomly nerf the repair tools? Did they nerf them according to the minmatar bonus so that the bonuses wouldn't get out of hand? (a flux repair tool right now with the minmatar bonus would have an almost 50 meter range)
Currently standard repair tools have a 15 meter range, advanced 18 and proto 21. The core focused then has a range of only 10.5, meaning that for the best repair rate you sacrifice the ability to hide behind cover or repair at a distance. It even makes it hard to repair multiple people at once.
With 1.8 we will see standards at 10, advanced and proto at 15...With the minmatar bonus all of these stats will be better than they are now...but that's only with a level 5 bonus. Oh, and why are the ranges for advanced and proto the same? ________________________________________________
What's your thoughts about it? Keep in mind that I don't want this thread to be about the whole "logistics specialization". As a logi I don't think that's what these nerfs are at all, seeing as assaults and commandos will get bonuses to specific weapons...and those weapons are getting balancing nerfs too.
It's not like a gallente commando can only use assault rifles or only be good with assault rifles, yet that's what you sound like when you argue that a minmatar logi will only be good with a repair tool, or that the caldari will only be good with nanohives -_-

idk the actual nerf to triage hives, but id imagine for non-Caldari logis the repair tool is the better option
to be honest shayz

Yeah, the rep tool nerf has been a bit of a head scratcher for me too. Only explanation i can think of is that they are compensating for the new sentinel damage resistances so they don't actually become indestructible if say 2 core focused reppers are on them.
Doesn't explain the range nerf, though.

Less range mean that the logi is not behind cover reaping hide heavy but need to stay in the open, so you can host him down and than kill the heavy.

It seems like the BDR-8 will be better than the core focused. Pros: -Double the range -Less than half the cost -Repairs 93hp/s at prof V
Cons: -Slightly lower repair rate.

This is much easier to understand than the data dumps CCP gave us.
But with a proto flux it would be 87.5 hp/s and 33.5m range. Triage would be 110 hp/s and 22.5m range
