I am getting slightly annoyed with being fairly rapidly evaporated in my drop ship. Does anyone have any tips on fittings to prevent the quick on set of a case of the deads?
I prefer Caldari drop ships (missiles + shields).
I originally came on here to rage about how annoying tanks are, being able to kill a drop ship several times more costly, in a quick manner. But instead I figured that I might be doing something wrong fitting wise or what not.
Thanks for your time. |

Work very closely with a good tanker, preferably 2.

There are quite a few good fittings I've seen. But remember that with vehicles, it's too expensive not to go proto, so if you don't have it, get it.
anyway some fits here.
2 complex hardeners 1 complex light extender 1 militia cpu upgrade
2 complex hardeners 1 basic heavy extender 1 complex pg upgrade
2 complex hardeners 1 complex afterburner 1 missile expansion unit
1 complex hardener 1 enhanced heavy extender 1 enhanced afterburner 1 complex pg upgrade
I've heard that you can use this one, but haven't tried yet
1 enhanced heavy extender 1 basic heavy extender 1 afterburner 1 complex pg upgrade
There are a lot of good ADS fittings, try some out, see what you like then go with what you're best with. If all else fails, try to get a better pilot to teach you.

Having other friendly vehicles to help keep the heat off you helps a lot. Also try to avoid hovering as much as you can, always be on the move.

tactics? There are no tactics. Just vehicle spam and thats it for ambush. Assault dropships are just a minor factor in competetive matches. Its all about tanks and infantry spamming uplinks. And no ambush doesnt count cause you cant evade the vehicle and regroup there due to the screwed up spawn mechanics. When it comes to actually flying the thing its experience and knowledge how the vehicle performs at what speed.

if you go 3 games without being shot down it's a pretty good run
you can also risk a well timed hover with a gallente imo

Why are the shield boosters not used? I occasionally use them, but if something (usually a rail) gets through my shields, the booster doesn't typically kick in before I'm dead. They seem to have some kind of delay or glitch. They're really only good if you're up against blasters only.

Thanks for your time. I run milita ships for deliveries. Your best defense is afterburners. Stay low to the ground and use buildings as cover. Protect the rear of ship 'most vulnerable'. Hardeners also work great to get you out of harms way.

You can risk hovers in an Incubus with dual hardeners active if you also fit an after burner to bug out with once you start taking hits. Don't stay longer than your hardeners and boost out as soon as the first hit obliterates your shield. A heavy repper fills up the third low slot.
It's a true use of the "waves of opportunity" mechanic. Most of my deaths in that fitting come from hitting something on my way out, so maintain situational awarness of the terrain. |

Stack hardeners. Try to find buildings to hide behind. Don't use anything but missile turrets.

Fitting is less important than awareness, if you keep taking the time to check the whole map, you might just spot a threat, which you can then take action to avoid... Such as -
A loner forge gunner, you can either run or go 1 on 1, dodge enough shots and he's got a massive reload time.
A tank, which you can hover over and blow to pieces (if it isn't an instant repair armour tank.)
A redzone tank, this is when you either hide behind something big, run away and recall or get someone (most likely yourself) to camp a railtank of your own near it and keep it out of the fight/blow the ****** up.)
...
I also agree with the guy who said "Keep hovering to a minimum" because the only way to find a threat without dieing is to keep moving and hope they miss, so you can follow the trail.
I can't say much for the Shield Ships as I use the ArmourBus, but most builds can work depending on how you fly it... until I got higher skills in some stuff I just had [Small Armour Rep]-[Small Armour Extender]-[Armour Hardener] With an [Afterburner] for easy escapes... But I found the armour wasn't worth the speed reduction so now I run a lighter faster fit with more armour repair & sometimes a scanner instead of the afterurner. If I did run a Shield Ship I'd probably go for maxing out hp + a single hardener. |
