I been playing for about a month or 2 and always been wondering if there was anyway the faction's weapons were specialized in anyway. I been confused about this till finally the dev blogs for 1.8. So now I understand Amarr has Laser, Caldari has Hybird - Rail, Gallente has Hybird - Blaster, and Minmatar has Projectile/Explosives. So that clear up the confusion why Amarr had heavies but no heavy weapons, the HMG is a projectile weapon while the Forge Gun is a Hybird - Rail, so my imperial forge guns will be a rare commodity one of these days since the only way I know you can get them is the Amarr Combat Pack. Now up to here is what I understand about the LP Store.
Now here is where I do a double take. I would like someone to tell me how a Swarm Launcher is a Hybird - Rail weapon. Last I checked they were explosive weapons which would make them Minmatar weapon type. Unless I'm utterly wrong and they truly are Hybird - Rail. Then I take a look at the Sniper Rifle... Hmmm.... Yes I can see how the Charged Sniper Rifle could be a Hybird - Rail. But every other Sniper Rifle is more of a Hybird - Blaster or Projectile. So that's just looking at the Caldari weapon selection. But let's look at the Gallente signature weapon that was the featured as the main weapon the Gallente Combat Pack! The Plasma Cannon. When I used this this screamed Hybird - Rail. I could be wrong that the delay to charge it up is more of a Hybird - Blaster type then what Hybird - Rail weapons are known for, the charge up delay. But hey, I can see how this could all work out, lets trade the sniper rifle for the plasma cannon and then just give Minmatar the Swarm Launcher since Caldari is already getting 2 new side weapons! That way the only person who gets the short end of the stick is Amarr. Just like how it should be.... Give our Amarr Heavies atleast a Scrambler Gatlin or something!
And that was my little rant on the current Factional Weapon set ups. |

When it comes to missiles they are actually pretty universally accepted by all races but it is the Caldari who express much more fondness over them than the rest by a long shot. Hence why the swarm launcher and missile turrets are Caldari.
Generally each race can be said to have two weapon types,
Amarr: Beam laser and pulse laser Minmatar: Projectile and artillery Caldari: Hybrid rail and missile Gallente: Hybrid plasma and drones (which unfortunately Dust does not yet have)

Swarms are missile launchers, Caldari tech.
Currently we only have 1 ammo type for Swarms and those are Nova Missiles (Explosive) but I predict in the future we will have missiles for all the 4 damage types. |

Didn't know the Eve weaponry tech, so now the Plasma Cannon makes more sense other then why they advertised that for the Gallente Combat Pack over the Assault Rifle >.> Flaylock and Mass Driver are Artillery. Guessing Scrambler tech is Pulse Laser. It somewhat makes more sense now I know the Eve Weapon types rather then guessing off by what I see in dev blogs and weapon description which don't say what type of weapon it is. Couldn't figure out wtf was really different between the Assault Rifle and Combat Rifle till the 1.8 dev blogs. |

The Sniper Rifle is hybrid because you can visually see the rails. Also the Caldari use missile technology(and so do the Gallante), which is where Swarm Launchers find their place.
The Caldari - Rail, Missile, ;and to a lesser extent; Blasters and drones
The Gallante - Blasters, Drones and to a lesser extent rails, as well as missiles
Amarr - Laser, *Scrambler
Minmatar - Projectile, Explosive(Artillery)
It's important to understand that lore wise most of the Cluster uses projectile weapons. Also, blasters are common place in the Amarr Empire and the Minmatar play around withmissiles and rail weaponry (the Mass Driver uses low powered rails to shoot explosives). Though it will probably be a few years before we see a "Gallante CreoDron Laser Rifle" or "Amarr Viziam Flaylock pistol".

And to be fair CCP doesn't really do a good job conveying through Dust what all these various weapon types are and which races prefer what tech. Also hard to tell that the assault rifle is firing plasma rounds (hence why people want to change it's name to the plasma rifle) where as the combat rifle is firing (for the most part) standard bullets, because for the most part it all looks the same.
