Free Game.
I got better myself. No one taught me anything, but a corp member showed me the light of using shotguns (when I was using the AScR). Forums taught me that my core is important. And some random dude gave me dropships to practice how to pilot.
I enjoy the community. There are awesome people here. Awesome scouts, awesome heavies, awesome personalities and role players. There's everything. Unfortunately, the game being released when it's 25% complete saddens me. Real Life friends laughing at me for playing this game saddens me. Realizing they may be right saddens me. I believe Dust 514 has the potential to reach great heights, but I'm not sure if I'll stick around to see it. I want to introduce players to this game and have them stay and like it for what the game truly is. I want this game to succeed, but I'd rather have this sooner than later. Also, I pray to every God every single night so that someday CCP may learn how to balance this damn game. Maybe someday... |

I seen it on the What's New Tab on PSN. Was like "Hmmm cool a free game!" Then I seen it was a FPS and I was like :O Even better! I've always wanted to play a FPS that wasn't COD.
Liked it and decided to stick with it though I died so damn much. I did want BF3 more though but was like ehhh good enough for now. |

I got a ps3 more than a year ago and looked through the bundles. The highest one seemed a bit much and the games weren't as interesting. The middle one came with a code for the beta. The sales dude seemed pretty psyched about it so I checked it out. That is how I discovered Dust.
I kept playing because it is not only addicting but it has a lot of potential, which I'd like to see realized.
I just kind of kept practicing to get good, but KatanaPT and the rest of Tech Guard really helped to mold me at first, as well as my good friends from Galere and current corpmates of Lokapalas. later on.

I started playing this game because I had been following it for years, reading whatever scraps of info I could find, and totally excited for it. I watched leaked closed beta footage, and eventually got into the closed beta; it was both awful and great, I knew what to expect so the bad parts didn't turn me off the game. I kept playing because I like high time-to-kill shooters, I like large scale Battlefield-esque shooters, I love scifi settings, and most of all I believe the devs were willing to take the time and effort to keep making the game better and better until it becomes the thing they envisioned and described to the public. No one helped me (not very social), there wasn't even a tutorial. I just figured out everything for myself.

Yeah I was looking at free games on PSN. Saw the black caldari suit, thought it looked cool especially for a free game.
I don't think I ever would've found it if I hadn't bought Resident Evil 6, then someone turned me on to the PSN store because I added them to my friends list.
Kind of glad I found Dust. But I won't enjoy it again until 6 tank circle jerk is taken out of the game...
Edit: I stayed because I hate FPS games that are based on real life. It's the only one besides Star Wars Battlefront I don't hate.
Also nobody really helped me until Eternal Beings. I was lucky I got kicked out of Kill em Quick because I don't think anyone in that corp would've given a **** about me... large corps like that really aren't helpful for the new players. At least it wasn't in my experience.
Some douchebags in a corp nobody's heard of called Truth Unspoken kicked me out after I said to the CEO "I hope you don't mind I joined Kill em Quick with one of my alt characters." It's like wow... he kind of did me a favor in the long run anyway...

Lore and I couldn't play EVE.
I kept playing because I wanted to get better and meta. I also rather enjoy this game, through the ups and downs.
Shadow Soilder helped me to not be so noobish. Squading with Spartan MK420 and watching his ferocity on the battlefield grow instantaneously inspired me to get my gun game up. Watching Jungian slaughter folks on Twitch in a Minmatar Logistics suit and a GEK would get me hyped. I would watch how he moved about and played to learn some tips. And every "elite" merc that has bested me or anybody for that matter. I try to learn from my deaths so that I smarter, wiser than before...

Played in open beta because I had heard about it on reddit. I didn't like it at first because I tried to solo it and the tutorial (half-ass video they show you at the beginning) made it seem like it would just be a cool futuristic FPS, but the graphics were awful and it was really imbalanced.
I came back two months later, and have never looked back. Caius Corbulo invited me to a very old, disbanded corp called EINJERHAR ELITE, I met Trullia, Ensar and Wolfmord (none of these players play anymore) and followed Ensar into Svartur Bjorn, which was also disbanded then we went to Dead Man's game, which also fell apart as we moved on to Unit 514, which to my surprise also fell apart.
Now I'm in G0DS, 22m SP later, I'm wrecking everything and actually doing PC. Kewl.

April 2013. Whilst browsing the Minecraft Forums an ad for Dust popped up. Had a look into it, was quite interested. Before then I was Anti-FPS entirely, an adventure gamer of sorts. Forgot about Dust till I believe the 25th June. Downloaded, made this char, and went through the ORIGINAL Academy that taught me how to play. Quit after I got stomped in my first match out. Came back after 2 weeks. After I joined a dreadfully awful corp that I quit after a day, I stumbled upon Last Of The Brotherhood, where their CEO - Shadow1133 - taught me how to play properly, began my love affair with the then OP Flaylock, and had some fun (Back then going 7/15 was good to me, K/D was as low as 0.62). Then found Heavy Reign inc. Wouldnt be playing still if it wasnt for Lorelei Zee & Pushing Drip, who taught me further, along with Freek Coalition, their sister corp, with Night 5talker (Who makes excellent Dust videos by the way) and Nitrobeacon. After I switched through Freek Coalition I decided to leave for The Unholy Legion Of Darkstar, where I really fell in love with this game. And after a while I found myself here in Molon Labe.
Oh God how do I remember so much dear Lord. Ah well. I still hate this game though like everyone else ghough.
If you can't accept change, you will fail in this world.

I came here in closed beta after playing EVE for a bit. There was... something that appealed to me in it. I liked the atmosphere of the game. The old title screen in particular and the old themes made me very happy.
When I started off, I was pretty terrible. I started dumbfiring swarms to get kills, and was generally a bad player. After a while, I improved a bit. Nobody taught me how to play, or guided me. I didn't really go with any notable Dust corps, choosing instead to go with my EVE corp and a handful of people who stuck with us. I spent a year with them before moving on to FA.
I'm hanging around because there was some spark or some feeling of awesomeness in that beta that no other game has given me. I've yet to find it again, but if CCP manages to bring back that feeling I'm absolutely sticking here.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Always regretted not downloading Dust when it was first introduced to the Playstation Store. Ended up playing the game in late November and darn was that a big mistake.
Dust, to be honest, is the only FPS I ever played. Never really wanted to get into the mainstream FPS games that the kids were playing these days, instead getting immersed into RPGs and the like (personaaaaa). I basically ran solos throughout the beginning of my Dusting days, until Titan-God took me into his corp in mid-December, teaching me the ways of the sniper. I continually progressed through the ranks until I proved myself to be a better merc than I was before and finally became director of THE-TITANS. The activity in our corp gradually decreased until now, with just about five/six mercs active, and that means running more solos for me.
Shout-out to Titan-God for being just an excellent mentor to me, and he might not see this considering he doesn't visit the forums despite my constant nagging to him about becoming a "forumite".

Sorry for bad language.
I startet Dust, cause i read something about a game wich tries to put two different kind of games together (a Dream since i know X2). In the past i try out EVE, X2, X3, Sins of Solar and kind of that and iam also love Halo and the hole **** of science-fiction-laser-beam-kill-stuff. For me personaly, EVE takes to much time (in this two-weeks-testaccount i sleep 4 hours and abuse my coffeemachine).
Then i read about Dust and the open Beta. Here iam. I search for some german corps and find one. There are so many questions and secrets and i found a lot of people who helped me with my first steps, show me the forum and where i can get more informations.
I also met some really awfull (right?) people but i learned, that they dont will stay. I also learned to ignore this "why i dont like Dust" posts. My english skills are not the best, but since Dust its much bether than before. Dust is agreat Idea and game sometimes boring but the time will heal :)
Dust is the first MMORPG-FPS ive played longer then a year. And ive try out many games. Thx for the steps of makin such a game. Thx for beeing part of creative thinkin and building and THX FOR THIS POST!!! (first i thought it was such an ironic "i dont know why iam playin dust" post). It shows me that there are some more people out there who not only see their own benefit.
Hope to shoot you on the battlefield Greets Cee |

Played eve during apocrypha in 2009 Fell in love with the game, started a war, membership ran out as my laptop broke. Never got back to it. during my time a friend who joined eve with me showed me a leaked vid saying eve was going to have a console fps for mercs to be hired by eve corps for interplanetary warfare and link a computer game and a console game and it blew my mind. I have a deep love for scifi and not going further into eve is somethin i regret. Waited years for the revolutionary game Ccp was making. Few years later had Internet installed and got dust around October. disappointed
I'm not sure why I'm still here, I want to like this game but I'm not waiting 10 years to get what I saw in 2009. The reputation is such that it will never be the revolutionary game it could have been but it has potential still.

Made my toon around the time E3-build was around, played off and on and then found Waruiko Dust and played with him. He joined the G I A N T [GI4NT] Corporation and due to our old closed-recruitment policy, I was allowed in several weeks after he joined and was initiated in as a 3rd generation GIANT and I am now a director and head diplomat of the corp.
I continue playing because of all the cool duders and dudettes that I've met throughout my time playing the game. If it weren't for them, I don't think I would have had the will to continue playing.
Hurray for being in one of the oldest and still running corps in Dust 514!

Started playing about a 9 months ago. Got my brand new ps3 after my old vacuum cleaner sounding one died on me. I probably would have discovered it earlier if I had been playing more. I didn't play a lot cause that sound hurt my ears. So I received it in the mail, with Uncharted 3 [should have kept it] and a code for 'Dust 514.' I entered the code, and waited for the semi-long process of downloading/installing. As soon I started it I'm like 'if you suck your getting deleted.' And it didn't. I've been a shotgun scout since the first day I started playing cause assault was boring, didn't know about LogiBro, and I've always wanted to run a shotty scout this being my first FPS and online game. I knew then, no one appreciates a shotgun scout. I keep playing cause of

I 'traded' some Earth and Beyond game money for 50mil ISK to get started in Eve (2003). I was sold on CCPs long term promises. Later on I was too passive in Eve (solo a lot - no time for corp ops). The devs talked about how much they liked the shooter experience, and how they were going to have a PI and WIS related shooter integration and so I broke out the ice mining fleet...to grind ISK and build up my industrial capacity. Some day I'll be able to manufacture merc consumables and make both games more meaningful to me.

Shotty GoBang was never particularly good, nor was he bright. The very first act of his very first match involved hacking a turret and shooting it at the big red ship in the sky. He was and remains one of those guys.
Shotty was poached from Call of Duty by MadMatt420 (CoD clan founder) and Djinn Monkey (CoD clanmate). The hook was set by the following three factors:
- The concept of "leveling up" in a FPS was uniquely appealing
- Several CoD buddies were trying out Dust at the time
- The Shotguns of Black Ops II were simply terrible
Paladin SaS (CoD clanmate) donated a couple hours describing Dust's skill system, mechanics and basic battle flow. Paladin explained that SP should be spent carefully, and that mail from "ContraBanJoe" should never be read. Paladin also recommended checking out the forums before picking a suit; a thread by Bojo the Mighty placed Shotty on the Scoutly path.
A few weeks into getting crushed, Shotty landed a lucky Breach Shotgun blast to the face of Zar Du'Kar (Claro Paulo) of Pro Hic Immortalis. PHI recruited Shotty and -- over the course of several months -- eventually convinced him to stop running straight into enemy fire. Famed Scout Shotgunner Morathi III later joined PHI; he offered to take Shotty under his wing.
Shotty GoBang still s*cks, but he s*cks less hard, largely thanks to Morathi. o7 |

Tried it out because my MAG team was Raving about it. Played for a bit, hated it. Came back 3 months later, and joined ZionTCD. Played with them for a while, but could never get into a squad with them due to the training Corp having no squads in squad finder. So I left, and joined UMC, because I had played a couple matches with their squads, and enjoyed the chemistry they had. Oh, and the Heavy I had in Zion switched over, so, like a good logibro, I followed him (gotta give those reps). Played my first PC match on 3/15/2014, and lost.... but I enjoyed it immensely. Oh, and I forgot to pull out my scrambler rifle the entire game, I was so busy. The NPE would be greatly increased if they were automatically put into a player run starter Corp, so they could run in squads and see that the true glory of this game is in its squad gameplay.

Hakyou Brutor wrote:Why did you start playing this game? Why did you keep playing? Who helped you become not so noob-ish?
I started this game because it came out about the same time I started playing EVE, which, as a concept and game universe is unparalleled, IMO. At this time, I barely play EVE because I have so much fun playing Dust.
Having never played an MMOFPS before, I died a sh!t ton and was sort of put off by the immensity of the UI, the intensity of the battles, lack of tutorial, etc. I took a 6 month break, after which I had roughly 6M SP to invest and some Templar BPOs (woohoo, anniversary edition!), and that made everything much, much more approachable. Just playing a lot and being okay with dying a ton are what has made my skills progress. Now I consistently end matches with 600+ SP and a positive KDR.
I spent most of my time sniping, moved on to SG scouting, and am now flying ADS. I still snipe as much as possible because I still find it more enjoyable than other play styles (hey--I'm a hunter and archer IRL, so marksmanship = meditation/relaxation for me!), but I can fill a few roles and am considering leveling ARs from 4 to 5, what with the massive amount of SP I have coming in. That way I can run frontline, too.
My other dropsuit is a Python.
