The 1 million clone challenge has us crunching a lot of number to determine the liklihood of us meeting the goal. I've seen a player base mentioned of 4,000, but when I log-in to Dust, I see counts of 20,000 or so on weekdays up to 50,000 or more on weekends.
So where does the 4,000 player base number come from, or more importantly, what is the real player base number for Dust?

Simple: about 4000 people have heard of DUST, but that goes up and down as they forget and remember it.

The 4000 is the currently logged into Dust
The 20000+ is EVE and Dust combined.

You're seeing the total Tranquility server numbers, including EVE pilots. The player base is also much larger than currently logged in. Most people mean peak concurrent player count but call it player base.

The amount of players logged in in game counts both EVE and dust players.
This tells you the actual dust numbers http://eve-offline.net/?server=dust
We usually peak around 4000 players logged in at once. |

The 40-50k you see is total New Eden numbers, DUST atm rarely gets over 4k.

That number you're seeing on the login screen is the number for the entire Tranquility server - it includes EVE players as well, who outnumber us massively. The actual player count for the Dust server is about 4,000 at once. It's probably a bit higher for the entire playerbase, I'd estimate 30-50k, but that's how many are on at once.
I do wish people would stop claiming that those 4,000 people are the entire playerbase, though. They're really not.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

The 20k (often into the fifties) something include EVE Online. The 3-4k something are pure dust. Both numbers are concurrent, meaning that it's the current amount players logged on at any given time.
The overall size of the community is hard to asses but you can expect it to be in the 15/20k range at least. Rather more, I think.

That number is the amount of players on Tranquility, which includes EVE Online players as well
This site shows the total amount of DUST 514 players currently online.

Chribba keeps server tabs for the communities of new eden...
http://eve-offline.net/
Also comes with nice graphs...
we could say DUST has a 3-3500 concurrent base player average through a day....
Through however they do the math its roughly around 50,000 users through the week. Which is half of what EVE online shot for and that is CCP's flagship that built them. So with those numbers considered it's actually decent.
Chromosome, DUST 514's Open Beta saw numbers in the 15,000 peaks.. Though IWS has claimed this was CCP using IP tricks to test server capabilities... I can remember nights i would never see the same mercenary twice.. And then it was really niche.. Ambush guys ran ambush only. Skirmish... Skirmish only... and OMS would only run OMS... So if you ran one game mode you woulds till never see the same person... Now? I know what weapon almost every mercenary is running after an hour of play. |
