You aren't forced to do anything. You can Mic into the channel even without having a headset yourself, voice comes through normal speakers and you can hear what they are talking about.
Helps to know whats going on around you, and who needs support.
Its also nice to know if you have backup or not without having to check the minimap for blue dots who might or might not (Mostly the latter) have any idea whats actually going on.
I am here to ask you one question, and one question only: EXPLOSIONS?

If you squad up, your points will go toward that squad's total. Well, this doesn't matter in FW, though.
Anyway, my point is that if you go into a game and see open spots, you should try to fill them.

It's like shooting hoops in your backyard by yourself or playing a game with two teams of friends.
Both are fun, but playing with other people on a team really adds depth to the game, IMO. |

Squads used to be fun but then I always find myself leaving because Frost kitty doesn't like my reps(take my reps you gallente scum or i'll talk ya to do death with a deep texan accent) or they take to much of the kills in my hunting areas.

You don't have to work as a squad, though there are certainly some that prefer it.
Like someone else said, you can still run solo, you just contribute your WP to a potential orbital. Assuming that the squad leader pays attention, as some random squad leaders seem to neglect.
