12March and Silence continues to be the watchword for CCP when it comes to DUST.
Is no news really good news? Most of the community may disagree but CCP's new Dust executive producer must not count himself amongst such a majority.
Many months have past since CCP Rouge's inception into the pivotal post without any word or feedback to players regarding which way the errant game is headed, if anywhere.
It amazes me that, given the precarious position DUST finds itself in market wise, such a close-lipped policy would seem prudent.
Alas, nothing to do but wait.
Thanks, CCP. At least you are consistent |

It is suspenseful! But, for the record, CCP: it is NOT entertaining |

CCP Rouge is doing what any sensible Executive Producer for an FPS game is suppose to be doing.
The one thing that's far worse than not giving information is getting the wrong information. We know. We experienced wrong information before CCP Rouge started shaking things up.

Maken,
What wrong information is CCP Rouge at risk of delivering? Speaking only for myself, I am not asking CCP to reveal Everything. I am asking them to be more transparent and communicative than they have been. That's a pretty broad, accepting, patient and reasonable position to take, in my humble opinion.
Transparent and open communication between a company and it's customers ( or a government and it's citizens for that matter) does not assume that every utterance and bit of information will remain correct and unaltered throughout time. In fact, I believe that companies that opt to be open and transparent will, over the long run, engender a more understanding and reasonable relationship with customers.
It is when a company decides to build a wall between themselves and thier marketplace that they begin to encounter confusion, misunderstanding, false assumptions and unmet expectations.
CCP has taken the wrong approach to interacting with thier playerbase.
I am not contending that this will cause them to fail. In fact, this is how most of thier Game developing peers do business - behind a screen of controlled communication and information flow.
Some players believe that this is a necessity for various reasons but I believe it is an excuse and a poor approach to growing an innovative transformational product.
But, I am just a player. Just a customer. Not a developer and not a marketing director. Wtf do I know... |

I know what you mean and where you come from. I'm just saying that CCP Rouge knows what he's doing considering his background. He did work for EA before coming to CCP and has a pretty solid track record. We'll just have to trust that he's doing the right thing.
Sometimes, silence is golden. In that case, it looks like we hit the mother lode these past 3 months. Besides, you and I have already seen the negative impact of being given the wrong information.

Ok, what I hear you saying is,"Give Rouge a chance"
I will do that. Not like we have a choice. The only thing I have a choice about, regarding DUST's development is how I react to it and whether I stick around to care.
So, ok, I will stick around a bit longer and try to work on more patience through lower expectations.
That seems to be the best approach from a customer point of view given the game developer's policy of communication |
